摘要: An epicardial device, system, and method for stabilizing the left atrial appendage during a left atrial appendage ligation/occlusion procedure. A cryoadhesion device including a stabilization element is positioned within the pericardial space proximate the left atrial appendage through subxiphoid access. Once the stabilization element is in contact with the left atrial appendage, the stabilization element is cooled to a temperature that is sufficient to cryoadhere the stabilization element to the left atrial appendage. In this way, the cryoadhesion device stabilizes the left atrial appendage in order to perform left atrial appendage ligation/occlusion with a secondary medical device.

摘要: A device, system, and method for treating an area of tissue and evaluating lesion formation and quality. The system may include a medical device having a plurality of mapping electrodes on a treatment element, the plurality of mapping electrodes being configured to record from the area of tissue at least one of unipolar impedance measurements, bipolar impedance measurements, local electrical activity, and pace threshold measurements before, during, and after circulation of the cryogenic fluid within the treatment element. These measurements may be transmitted to a control unit having processing circuitry configured to compare pre-treatment measurements, in-treatment measurements, and/or post-treatment measurements to each other and/or to threshold values to determine occlusion and/or lesion quality, such as lesion transmurality.

摘要: A method of performing bronchial denervation of a bronchus having bronchial nerves along a portion thereof is provided. The method includes providing a cryoablation device having multiple electrodes capable of delivering electrical energy and measuring impedance. At least one bronchial nerve is stimulated with electrical energy. The electrical signals from the at least one bronchial nerve are recorded to provide a first value representative of nerve function. Cryogenic treatment energy is applied to form ice in the bronchus having a thickness to encapsulate the at least one bronchial nerve to cause a reduction in nerve function. The at least one bronchial nerve is restimulated with electrical energy. The electrical signals are recorded from the restimulated at least one bronchial nerve to provide a second value that represents diminished nerve function. The first value and the second value are compared to provide an assessment of the reduction in nerve function.

摘要: A catheter-based medical device including controlled refrigerant dispersion is disclosed. The device includes a fluid injection tube that carries refrigerant from a coolant supply to the distal portion of the device. A fluid dispersion unit is disposed on the distal end of the fluid tube to control the angle of distribution for refrigerant that is expelled from the fluid injection tube. Controlling the angle of distribution for the refrigerant facilitates dispersion of the fluid in a predetermined spray pattern. The disclosure further relates to cryoablation treatment systems incorporating such a catheter, and to cryoablation treatment methods for tissue treatment to address various conditions suitably treatable with cryoablation.

摘要: A device, system, and method for performing a variety of treatment procedures safely with a single treatment device. For example, a system is provided that includes a treatment device with a highly conformable balloon that is inflated at a constant pressure and that remains “soft” during use, which enhances balloon-tissue contact, treatment efficacy, and patient safety. In one embodiment, a system for ablating tissue comprises: a treatment device including a highly conformable balloon; a control unit including a fluid supply reservoir in fluid communication with the highly conformable balloon, the control unit being configured to deliver fluid from the fluid supply reservoir to the highly conformable balloon such that the highly conformable balloon is maintained at a balloon pressure of between 0.2 psig and 3.0 psig.

摘要: A cryotreatment catheter for treating tissue. The catheter may include an outer elongate body, a balloon treatment element coupled to the distal portion of the elongate body with a plurality of balloon lobes radially arranged around the outer elongate body, an inner elongate body rotatably movable within the lumen of the outer elongate body, and a fluid delivery lumen located within the lumen of the outer elongate body and at least partially within the lumen of the inner elongate body. The fluid delivery lumen may be branched at a distal portion into a plurality of linear segments, each linear segment being in fluid communication with one of the plurality of balloon lobes. Each of the balloon lobes may be inflated independently of each other by the linear segments of the fluid delivery lumen.

摘要: A medical system for monitoring pressure may comprise a medical device with an expandable element, at least one pressure sensor in communication with the expandable element and a control unit. The control unit may include a fluid source in fluid communication with the expandable element and circulation of the fluid within the expandable element may inflate the expandable element. A processing circuitry may be configured to monitor a pressure within the expandable element based on signals received from the at least one pressure sensor for a first period of time and circulation of the fluid within the expandable element for a second period of time.
