    摘要: A high pressure gas flare using the Coanda effect has a noise attenuator surrounding the high pressure gas outlet slot. The noise attenuator is in the form of one or more upwardly diverging frusto-conical shields which may be spaced apart or closed with the body of the flare. The attenuator is particularly useful for steam driven flares.

    摘要: This invention relates to a method of dehydroisomerizing n-butane by contacting at elevated temperatures a feedstock containing n-butanes with a catalyst composition containing a gallium compound on a support. The process affords a valuable method of producing iso-butene which is a basic chemical feedstock for a number of products including polyisobutenes, methacrolein and methyl tertiary butyl ether, to name a few. The last named compound can be prepared by reacting isobutene with methanol and is a convenient means of separating iso-butene from the products of the dehydroisomerization stage.

    摘要: A method of monitoring the wear of relatively moving parts, particularly inaccessible moving parts of internal combustion engines, comprises fixing a length of radioactive material into the part to be monitored, so that one end of the material is flush with the wearing surface, and measuring the loss of radioactivity as the surface of the part and radioactive material are worn away.An internal combustion engine having a length of radioactive material fixed into a relatively moving part, as described above, and a radiation detector which may be fitted to the outside of the engine is also claimed.The method may also be used to measure wear in, for example, pumps or compressors.

    摘要: A heat storage medium consists of sodium hydroxide and water, the sodium hydroxide concentration being in the range greater than the stoichiometric concentration in sodium hydroxide monohydrate up to and including 80% by weight, the water concentration being in the range less than the said stoichiometric concentration down to and including 20% by weight. Within this particular concentration range the tendency of the sodium hydroxide water system to supercool diminishes after a few cycles. The initial supercooling may be reduced by the addition of tellurium dioxide in amount 0.1 to 2.0% by weight of the combined weight of sodium hydroxide and water.

    摘要: A barrier for the containment and recovery of oil spilt on water comprises a first buoyant air chamber 1, a ballast water chamber 2, an oil and water discharge tube 3 and a second buoyant air chamber 6. The first air chamber 1 has a plurality of sections of reduced diameter 7, which together with the ballast water chamber 2 define a series of weirs for oil and water to pass into a gallery formed by the ballast water chamber 2, the oil and water discharge tube 3 and the second air chamber 6. Pumps 4 may be provided in the oil and water discharge tube 3 to remove oil from the gallery. The second air chamber 6 provides buoyancy to maintain the optimum configuration of the weirs.
