Disclosed are a liquid crystal display device capable of obtaining preferable display images, whose manufacturing cost is low, and which does not deteriorate the environment at the time of fabrication and a method for fabricating the same. According to the invention, there is provided a liquid crystal display device comprising: a first substrate on which a black matrix, a color filter, and a counter electrode are formed; a second substrate on which a plurality of gate signal lines and a plurality of source signal lines which are disposed so as to cross each other via a gate insulating film, thin film transistors disposed in intersecting points of the gate signal lines and the source signal lines, and pixel electrodes in a matrix disposed in the areas surrounded by the gate signal lines and the source signal lines are formed; and a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the black matrix is formed by a black resin optical shielding layer and a blue filter layer. In a method for fabricating the liquid crystal display device according to the invention, the black matrix part formed by the blue filter layer is constructed by a photoresist film in which a blue pigment is dispersed and the photoresist film is patterned by using back side exposure.

Disclosed is a method of producing color filters, which comprises forming a layer of an organic polymeric material having a predetermined light-sensitive characteristic on a substrate, exposing this layer to a predetermined pattern, developing the exposed layer to form a filter base and dyeing the filter base, wherein after the development of the exposed layer, the layer is wetted with a dehydrating solution to remove water from the filter base. By this dehydrating treatment, the filter base can be processed with very high precision.

According to a solid-state imager of this invention, in case where a plurality of color filters are disposed on a semiconductor body for the solid-state imager including a plurality of photosensitive regions and where the color filter of a third color is constructed by the overlapping between filter members of a first color and a second color, that one of the filter members which has a spectral transmittance substantially transmitting light for exposure for use in forming the filter members is arranged as a lower layer closer to a substrate of the semiconductor body. Even when the filter members are formed by the exposure process, a solid-state imager having good characteristics can be manufactured.

Surfaces of a perforated mask made of iron are allowed to contact with an acidic aqueous solution of antimony trichloride, e.g., a hydrochloric acid solution to form a thin film of metallic antimony on said surfaces. A protective coating of a phosphate is allowed to be deposited onto said thin film. Thereafter, said surfaces is heated in an oxygen atmosphere to produce a grayish black coating having an excellent thermal emission power. The perforated mask thus treated has no permanent deformation like wrinkles produced at a perforated sheet member and is uniform in color.

An Al film is selectively formed on inner lead portions and portions of positioning reference plates located within a ceramic packaging body. On the other hand, the outer lead portions that are exposed outside the packaging body are coated with Sn plating layer. Particular care is taken not to locate the Sn plating layer over the Al film. Contamination faults due to Sn swelling and stripping are prevented, while bonding strength of the Al clad inner lead portions with Al internal fine wires and with fit glass joining the ceramic packaging body together is kept high.
