    摘要: Increased ion exchange capacity per unit weight of substrate is achieved upon using as the substrate regenerated cellulose sponge instead of cotton fabric. A water soluble crosslinkable polymeric material having ion ion exchange sites, such as polyvinyl phosphate or polyethylenimine, and a suitable crosslinking agent are dissolved in water. The sponge is wetted with the solution and dried and cured at about 100 degrees to 145 degrees C. to crosslink the polymer to the substrate. The so-prepared ion exchange composition is immersed in a flowing stream of dilute aqueous solution of heavy metal ions or otherwise contacted with such solution to effect separation and concentration of such cations.

    摘要: A thermosetting powder coating composition is disclosed herein. The composition comprises a solid pulverulent mixture of (A) a substantially linear vinyl addition interpolymer having a plurality of pendant 2-oxazoline and/or 2-oxazine groups, a number average molecular weight of from about 5,000 to about 25,000, and a melting point of from about 60.degree. C. to 90.degree. C., and (B) a solid polycarboxylic acid melting in the range of 70.degree. C. to 175.degree. C. which is included in an amount of from 0.75 to 1.25 carboxy equivalents per pendant oxazoline or oxazine group on the interpolymer. The utility of the above composition as a powder coating is further enhanced by inclusion of a plasticizer (e.g., a long chain monocarboxylic acid) and in practice, the powder compositions also normally include pigments and minor amounts of flow control agents. The instant powder coatings are applied by conventional techniques and cured at temperatures normally in the range of from about 150.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C.

    摘要: Ethylenically-unsaturated products are obtained by (a) reacting acrylic acid and 2-oxazoline or a 2-alkyl or aryl-2-oxazoline in an inert liquid reaction medium and (b) recovering the desired product from (a) by heating the reaction mixture under reduced pressure to strip away the liquid diluent and volatile components, thus leaving the desired product as a non-volatile residue. The reaction products can be cross-linked by conventional techniques (e.g. freeradical initiation) to form useful coatings and adhesives. For example, the product produced by heating equal molar amounts of acrylic acid and 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline in benzene gave an ethylenically-unsaturated oligomeric product having a number average molecular weight of 253 and a weight average molecular weight of 460 in approximately 95 percent yield.
