Abstract:
A mixing apparatus suitable for mixing and conveying solid, particulate, polymeric materials, comprising a barrel that can be heated and cooled, at least two co-rotatable, self-wiping extruder screws located within the bore of the barrel, the screws being connected through a laterally flexible coupling to a drive means which can reverse the direction of rotation of the screws upon the occurrence of a predetermined event. The apparatus also comprises a closeable feed port and a closeable discharge port, both of which can be made gas-tight, the shafts of the screws being provided with seals capable of withstanding elevated gas pressures inside the barrel.
Abstract:
A durable metallized moisture vapor permeable sheet is formed by coating a moisture vapor permeable sheet with at least one metal coating comprising a layer of a corrosion resistant metal or a plurality of metal layers having differing compositions. The metallized moisture vapor permeable sheet material is suitable for use as a building construction wrap such as roof lining and house wrap, and as EMF radiation shielding material.
Abstract:
A nonwoven web having a top surface and a bottom surface, the web containing polymeric fibers of a first polymer coated with at least a second polymer different from said first polymer, and wherein the second polymer coating thickness is a gradient throughout the thickness of the web.
Abstract:
A laminar structure comprised of at least one layer of glass and a sheet of plasticized PVB containing an adhesion control agent is provided wherein pin point pockets of air which are entrapped in said sheet coalesce and cause delamination of said structure, delayed delamination and associated defects are prevented by adding a nucleating agent with the plasticized PVB by coating the sheet or glass surface with a nucleating agent, by extruding the PVB sheet with the nucleating agent in the composition, or by forming the nucleating agent in situ during the extrusion or lamination process.
Abstract:
A laminar structure comprised of at least one layer of glass and a sheet of plasticized PVB containing an adhesion control agent is provided wherein delamination resulting from air being from air being dispersed or entrapped and dissolved in the PVB is controlled by use of a surface energy modifying agent, said surface energy modifying agent being selected to provide a total surface energy for the sheet of less than 52 dynes/cm.
Abstract:
A moisture vapor permeable metalized composite sheet is formed by coating a moisture vapor permeable sheet with at least one metal layer and at least one outer organic coating layer. The moisture vapor permeability of the composite sheet is at least about 80% of the moisture vapor permeability of the starting sheet. The composite sheet provides a barrier to air and liquid water infiltration while having high moisture vapor permeability and good thermal barrier properties. The composite sheet material is suitable for use as a building construction wrap such as roof lining and house wrap.
Abstract:
Porous fibrous sheets are provided that are useful in end uses requiring microbial barrier properties such as medical packaging and medical gowns and drapes. The porous fibrous sheets may contain nanofibers and wood pulp.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for making electrostatic charge dissipative material comprising the following steps: (a) optionally pretreating a substrate in a plasma field; (b) flash evaporating at least one monomer and at least one hygroscopic additive into a vacuum chamber to produce a vapor; (c) condensing the vapor on the substrate to produce a film of the monomer and the hygroscopic additive coating on the substrate; and (d) curing the monomer of the film to produce a polymeric layer containing hygroscopic additive on the substrate; wherein the condensing step is carried out under vapor-density and residence-time conditions that limit the polymeric layer to a maximum thickness of about 3.0 μm. The electrostatic charge dissipative material can be used to protect electrostatic sensitive electronic components.
Abstract:
A coated porous sheet material comprising a gas permeable sheet material selected from the group consisting of flash spun plexifilamentary nonwoven sheet, spunbonded-film-spunbonded composite sheet, spun-laced polyester/wood pulp composite sheet and paper and a polymeric coating on at least one side thereof, wherein the permeability of the coated sheet material is substantially equivalent to the permeability of an equivalent sheet material without the coating. The coated porous sheet material is suitable for use in heat sealable packages.
Abstract:
A process for nondestructive heating and supplying of ammonia feed gas wherein high quality ammonia (typically greater than 90% and as high as 99%) is preserved at temperatures well in excess of the conventional limit of 230° C. (typically from 400 to 700° C.) by controlling the selection of metal surfaces in contact with the hot gas, the bulk temperature of the gas, the wall temperature, the pressure, the contact time, and the spatial surface density. Such hot gases are particularly useful for the manufacture of hydrogen cyanide.
