Abstract:
Horizontal form fill seal apparatus for making flexible packages with slider fastener closures is provided. A fastener track is applied in-line with a plastic web and is bonded thereto at the same time that a peel seal is formed. All package components are brought together at a turntable-mounted point of fill. With rotation of the turntable, final sealing operations are performed.
Abstract:
An induction sealing device is utilized to seal a closure to a container on a packaging machine. The induction sealing device has a recess area for receiving a spout of a closure during the application process. A current is induced in a metal medium that generates heat to melt and chemically bond a closure to a container. The metal medium may be found in either the closure or the container.
Abstract:
A peelable sealing structure includes a sealing layer and one or more optional additional layers. The peelable sealing structure includes a sealing surface that is formable into a peelable seal upon contact with a sealing substrate at all temperatures in a peelable seal temperature range. Moreover, the peelable sealing structure comprises a thermoplastic polymer and an additive dispersed within at least a portion of the thermoplastic polymer with the peelable sealing structure defining the sealing surface.
Abstract:
Raised platforms having microwave susceptors thereon are provided, where the platforms are separable into two or more different platform components for use in heating either a larger food product or separately heating smaller food products. When the platform is separated into platform components, support is provided adjacent the area of separation.
Abstract:
Erectable platforms having microwave susceptors thereon are provided, where the platforms are convertible between a collapsed configuration and an erected configuration to save costs on packaging, storage, and shipping while still providing the benefits of elevated microwave heating. When the platforms are converted to the erected configurations, mechanisms are provided to maintain the platforms in the erected configuration.

Abstract:
A reclosable flexible package includes a reclosure having flanges joined at their upper ends to interlockable fastener tracks. The lower ends of the reclosure flanges are joined together with one of the reclosure flanges being joined to a side panel of the flexible package by a peel seal.
Abstract:
Vertical form fill seal apparatus for making flexible packages with slider fastener closures is provided. A fastener track is applied in-line with a plastic web and is bonded thereto at the same time that a peel seal is formed. All package components are brought together at the point of fill. Prior to assembly at the fill station a series of spaced-apart stop members are formed along the fastener tracks.
Abstract:
A tamper-evident plastic lid is welded to a plastic container at a welded portion and a detachable, replaceable lid portion is formed by tearing a frangible portion on the lid's skirt thereby leaving a torn tamper-evident, welded lid portion fixed to the container rim. The illustrated lid is a plug-fit lid which has a plug-shaped portion comprising a depressed central panel and an encircling, upstanding wall that engages an inner side of the container rim wall to retain the separated lid portion when it is replaced on the container. An energy director preferably in the form of an encircling bead on the lid initiates the softening of the plastic of the bead for welding with the plastic of the container rim. The preferred frangible portion is a reduced cross-sectional thickness web in a horizontally and radially extending skirt wall on the lid skirt overlying a horizontally and radially extending rim wall on the container rim. The frangible portion may be located radially inwardly of the welded portion. A pull tab may be provided on the replaceable lid portion to assist in initiating the fracturing of the thin frangible web. A pry slot may also be provided to aid in locating where and how to separate the replaceable lid portion from the welded portion which is permanently attached to the container.
