    摘要: An intake manifold 10 for a V-type internal combustion engine includes a first set of runners 12 feeding a first group of cylinders of the engine, a second set of runners 14 feeding a second group of cylinders of the engine, a first airbox 16 connected with and supplying air to the first set of runners, and a second airbox 18 connected with and supplying air to the second set of runners, with a communicating orifice 22 formed through a common wall which interconnects the airboxes, and further with a vacuum driven poppet valve 24 for controlling flow of air through orifice 22. The valve is preferably packaged as a cartridge and is inserted through an outer wall of one airbox.

    摘要: An ICE with at least one intake port and intake valve has an air inlet passage that is split by a divider wall into primary and secondary runners, the primary being smaller than the secondary. The secondary contains a flow deactivation valve for shutting off or permitting flow to the inlet port opening. The divider wall extends to a point immediately adjacent the intake valve stem so as to positively divide the passage into the two independent runners. The centerline of the primary passage is oriented so as to produce the desired swirl rate to the air flow, other geometric considerations being defined to accurately control the swirl rate of flow and velocity to provide maximum efficiency of operation; one being that the primary passage cross-sectional area be 40%-50% of the total cross-sectional area of the port opening, another being that the volume between the closed deactivation valve and the intake valve being less than 15% of the cylinder displaced volume, and including other sized ratios.

    摘要: An air intake system for an internal combustion engine having a load controlled port throttle system. Specifically the air intake system includes an idle speed control assembly (30), with a metered air line (28) supplying air to a slide metering valve (32). Idle air lines (34) lead from the slide metering valve (32) to the intake ports (16) downstream of the throttle valves (20). The slide metering valve (32) includes a slider plate (50), which can be moved by a solenoid (42) to maintain varying degrees of alignment with outlet passages (48) to the idle air lines (34). In this way, precise amounts of idle air are metered to the intake ports (16) with equal cylinder-to-cylinder air flow and without substantial cross-communication of air between cylinders. A vacuum assembly may also tap into the idle air lines (34) to provide a stable source of vacuum for other engine components.

    摘要: A four-stroke cycle, multi-cylinder reciprocating internal combustion engine has a camshaft phaser for powering an exhaust camshaft and for adjusting timing of the camshaft with respect to the rotational position of the crankshaft so that the cylinders of the engine may be deactivated by adjusting the camshaft timing such that the exhaust valves for each cylinder open and close at points which are approximately symmetrical about a rotational position of the crankshaft at which the direction of motion of the pistons change. The controller also closes an intake port throttle during cylinder deactivation.
