Abstract: A method for producing a welded metal blank (16) includes cutting a first initial metal sheet (1) and a second initial metal sheet (3) from a first and second metal strip (4); joining the first and second initial metal sheets (1,3) by welding so as to obtain an initial welded metal blank (9), the initial welded metal blank (9) comprising a weld joint (10) joining the first and the second initial metal sheets (1,3); and cutting said initial welded metal blank (9) by a process involving metal melting so as to obtain at least one final welded metal blank (16) comprising a first metal blank portion (17) and a second metal blank portion (18) joined by a weld joint portion (19) consisting of a portion of the weld joint (10) obtained during the joining step.

Abstract: A method for the preparation of steel sheets for fabricating a welded steel blank is provided. The method includes procuring at least two pre-coated steel sheets, each having a pre-coating of an intermetallic alloy layer, topped by a layer of aluminum metal or aluminum alloy or aluminum-based alloy. The sheets have a principal face, an opposite principal face, and at least one secondary face. The sheets are positioned so a gap between 0.02 and 2 mm exists between the secondary faces. The secondary faces face each other. The positioning of the first and second sheets defines a median plane perpendicular to the principal faces. Layers of metal alloy are removed by melting and vaporization simultaneously on the principal faces, in a peripheral zone of the sheets, the peripheral zones being the zones of the principal faces closest in relation to the median plane.

Abstract: A welded blank includes a first pre-coated steel sheet, a second pre-coated steel sheet the first pre-coated steel sheet including a principal first face and an opposite principal first face, the first layer being removed by melting and vaporization in a first peripheral zone of the first pre-coated steel sheet, and the second pre-coated steel sheet including a second principal face and an opposite second principal face, the second layer being removed by melting and vaporization in a second peripheral zone of the second pre-coated steel sheet. At least one welded joint defining a median plane perpendicular to the first and second principal faces. The welded joint area has at least one advantageous characteristic such as a sum of the widths of the first and second peripheral zones of the first and second pre-coated steel sheets varying by less than 10% along the welded joint, the first and second solidification ripples being aligned at the welded joint with respect to the median plane, morphologies of the first and second solidification ripples at the welded joint being identical and symmetrical, and/or an aluminum content in the welded joint being below 0.3%.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a precoated steel plate, the method including coating a steel plate by dipping the steel plate in a molten bath to obtain a precoat upon the steel plate, wherein the precoat includes an intermetallic alloy layer and a metal alloy layer. The intermetallic alloy layer is topped by the metal alloy layer. On at least one face of the plate, the metal alloy layer is removed in an area at a periphery of the plate using a laser beam, while leaving at least part of the intermetallic alloy layer in the area. The at least part of the intermetallic layer in the area has a thickness between 3 and 10 micrometers thick.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a precoated steel plate is provided. The method includes coating a steel plate by dipping the steel plate in a molten bath to obtain a precoat upon the steel plate. The precoat consists of an intermetallic alloy layer and a metal alloy layer, the intermetallic alloy layer is topped by the metal alloy layer. On at least one face of the plate, the metal alloy layer is removed in an area at a periphery of the plate using a laser beam, while at least part of the intermetallic alloy layer is left in the area. The step of removing includes measuring a characteristic of the laser or an area where the metal alloy area is to be removed to obtain a measured value, comparing the measured value with a reference value and stopping a removal operation to leave the at least part of the intermetallic alloy in place as function of the comparing step. Additional methods are also provided.

Abstract: This method for preparing a pre-coated metal sheet for welding thereof to another pre-coated metal sheet, containing the following successive steps: providing a pre-coated metal sheet containing a metal substrate provided, on at least one of its faces, with a pre-coating layer, then removing, on at least one face of said pre-coated metal sheet, at least part of said pre-coating layer so as to form a removal zone, said removal being done by the impact of a laser beam on said pre-coating layer, the removal step comprising, over the course of the removal, the relative displacement of said laser beam with respect to the metal sheet in a direction of advance (A). During the removal, the laser beam is inclined relative to the face of the metal sheet such that the orthogonal projection of the laser beam on said face of the metal sheet is located in the zone of the metal sheet in which the removal has already been done, and it forms an angle of inclination (a) of between 12° and 50° with the direction normal (N) to the face of the metal sheet.
