    摘要: The present invention is directed to sizing compositions for use on glass fibers which are used to reinforce lamination resins used in the formation of glass laminates. The sizing compositions contain a low molecular weight, polymer latex prepared by polymerizing at least one monomer(s) selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl esters of acrylic acid, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl esters of methacrylic acid, glycidyl acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl esters of acrylic acid, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl esters of methacrylic acid, vinyl esters of saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acids containing up to 10 carbon atoms, (meth)acrylamide and their N-substituted derivatives, vinyl ethers, N-vinyl lactams, halogenated vinyl compounds, alkyl vinyl ketones, (meth)allyl ester of saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acids, vinyl compounds such as vinyl pyrrole, olefins, diesters of itaconic, maleic and/or fumaric acid, and styrene. The polymers have a molecular weight effective to provide both improved wettability of the glass fibers by the lamination resins and improved clarity of reinforced glass laminates prepared from the sized glass fibers and the lamination resins, when compared to sizing compositions known heretofore. The invention is also directed to glass fibers treated with such compositions, and fiber-reinforced plastics prepared from such treated glass fibers.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to sizing compositions for use on glass fibers which are used to reinforce lamination resins used in the formation of glass laminates. The polymers have a molecular weight effective to provide both improved wettability of the glass fibers by the lamination resins and improved clarity of reinforced glass laminates prepared from the sized glass fibers and the lamination resins, when compared to sizing compositions known heretofore. C. characterized by superior rheological properties, are prepared without the use of additional thickeners from a colloid stabilized latex comprising: 65-90% by weight of the latex polymer solids of an acrylate or methacrylate ester monomer polymerized in 10-35% by weight of the latex solids of a polymeric colloid, the polymeric colloid having a Tg of -40.degree. to 0.degree. C., a number average molecular weight of 2,000 to 10,000 and comprising(a) 50 to 85% by weight of a monomer of the formula: ##STR1## where R' is hydrogen or methyl and R" is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 straight or branched chain alkyl group;(b) 10 to 50% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid;(c) 5 to 30% by weight of an acrylic or methacrylic ester of a polyalkylene oxide, and(d) 0 to 30% by weight of another ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable monomer.

    摘要: A two-part aqueous-based adhesive suitable for dry-bonding a polyether urethane foam to a rigid or semi-rigid substrate consists essentially of (a) an aqueous latex of an anionic emulsion polymer having a Tg of 0.degree. C. or below, preferably -5.degree. to -30.degree. C., an effective amount of a diepoxide or polyepoxide curing agent, and optionally, but preferably, an effective amount of a fugitive plasticizer. The polymer consists essentially of about 10-30% ethylene, 40 to 80% of vinyl acetate, 5-35% of a C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 -dialkyl maleate, and 4-10% of an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer (e.g., acrylic acid). Suitable substrates include styrene board and fiberglass board.

    摘要: High solids, low viscosity, alkaline-curable, thermosetting cationic vinyl ester based polymer latices, characterized by the high molecular weight of the polymer therein, are prepared by polymerizing at least 5% of selected vinyl esters (up to C.sub.6), 0.5-10% of a self-crosslinking cationic quaternary ammonium monomer, and optionally a vinyl polymerizable monomer such as butyl acrylate, ethylene, acrylamide, diallyl maleate, and/or 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of water, a watersoluble cationic azo initiator, a water-soluble amino thiol salt chain transfer agent, and a cationic and/or nonionic surfactant. The latices are useful as formaldehyde-free binders for polyester nonwovens.
