摘要:
A phosphor tape article includes a phosphor layer having a phosphor and a polymeric binder material and a structured surface, and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer disposed adjacent the phosphor layer such that light transmitted through the pressure sensitive layer is received by the phosphor layer through the structured surface. The pressure sensitive layer can also have one or more structured surface, which in some cases can be complimentary with the structured surface of the phosphor layer. Light emitting devices including phosphor tape and methods of making such devices are also disclosed.

A phosphor tape article includes a phosphor layer having a phosphor and a polymeric binder material, a pressure sensitive adhesive layer disposed adjacent the phosphor layer such that light transmitted through the pressure sensitive adhesive layer is received by the phosphor layer, and a release liner disposed on the pressure sensitive adhesive layer. The pressure sensitive adhesive layer is disposed between the release liner and the phosphor layer. The phosphor is suitable for excitation by UV or blue LED light, and the phosphor emission has a characteristic decay rate of less than 1 second. Light emitting devices including pieces of phosphor tape, and methods of making such devices, are also disclosed.

Direct-lit light backlights and associated methods and components are disclosed. The backlight has an output area such as a front diffuser behind which a plurality of light sources are disposed. A diverter having a first and second reflective surface is disposed between at least two light sources and the front diffuser. The first reflective surface is obliquely disposed to redirect at least some of the light emitted by the light source towards the front diffuser away from the front diffuser. The second reflective surface is obliquely disposed to redirect at least some light propagating laterally relative to the front diffuser towards the front diffuser.

An LED package includes an LED die and a light-transmissive material encapsulating the die. The encapsulant is formed by dispensing a curable material onto a substrate, such as a carrier on which is mounted the LED die, to form a liquid mass thereon, the liquid mass having an unconstrained smooth outer surface. The dispensed material is then cured to convert the liquid mass to a solid encapsulant having an outer encapsulant surface, the curing being performed under conditions to provide the outer encapsulant surface with undulating surface features. The encapsulant can alternatively be formed on a release liner or other film and after curing be affixed to an LED, such as an LED die, an LED die mounted to another substrate, or an LED die mounted to another substrate and encapsulated initially in another light transmissive material.

Direct-lit backlights and associated methods and components are disclosed in which a transflector that partially transmits and partially reflects incident light is shaped to form at least one concave structure facing a back reflector of the backlight. This provides at least one recycling cavity therebetween, the at least one recycling cavity substantially filling the output area of the backlight. At least one light source is disposed behind the output area to inject light into each cavity, and can be positioned in the recycling cavity or behind an aperture in the back reflector. The cavities are preferably shallow and wide, having a width-to-depth ratio of at least 5 or 10, and can provide uniform brightness and color at the output area with sparsely distributed light sources and in a thin profile backlight.

An edge-lit backlight having a light recycling cavity with concave transflector is disclosed. The edge-lit backlight has an output area and includes a back reflector facing the output area of the backlight. The backlight further includes a transflector that partially transmits and partially reflects incident light, the transflector being shaped to form a concave structure facing the back reflector to provide one or more recycling cavities therebetween, where the one or more recycling cavities substantially fill the output area of the backlight. The backlight further includes at least one light source positioned adjacent a first edge of the backlight. The at least one light source is operable to inject light into the one or more recycling cavities through an input surface of the one or more recycling cavities, where the input surface is substantially orthogonal to the output area, and where the at least one concave structure converges with the back reflector in a direction distal from the input surface.
