Abstract: A heat-curable structural adhesive includes a non-rubber-modified epoxy resin, a reaction product of a carboxyl- or amine-terminated butadiene polymer or copolymer and a bisphenol F-based epoxy resin, a elastomeric toughener containing capped isocyanate groups, one or more epoxy curing agents a moisture scavenger and a heat activatable catalyst comprising a mixture of a solid or liquid tertiary amine compound that has a boiling temperature of at least 130° C. and a novolac resin. The structural adhesive develops excellent bonding properties when cured at moderate temperatures, especially from 120 to 170° C., and in addition performs very well in environmental aging stress testing. The adhesive is particularly good for bonding aluminum to another metal, or bonding aluminum to aluminum.

Abstract: An intumescent coating system contains: a polyol component; an isocyanate component; a latent crosslinker having two or more —NACH2OR groups, where A is selected from a group consisting of H and —CH2OR, and in each case R is independently selected from a group consisting of hydrocarbons having from one to four carbons, the latent crosslinker being present at a concentration of 30 weight-percent or more based on polyol weight; a boron component one weight-percent or more and 10 weight-percent or less based on total weight of the formulation; and expandable graphite at a concentration of 10 weight-percent or more and 50 weight-percent or less based on the total intumescent system weight; where the polyol and isocyanate are selected so that the reaction product at room temperature of the intumescent coating system components produces a coating having a tensile elongation of 40-percent or more as determined according to ISO 37.

Abstract: The present invention provides all liquid, two-component foam forming compositions for forming fire-resistant rigid polyurethane foams comprising a chlorine-free liquid flame retardant (FR) additive. The compositions comprise a polyisocyanate component and, as a separate component, a polyol component of a blend of one or more high hydroxyl functional aromatic polyester polyols and one or more low hydroxyl functional aromatic polyester polyols, a novolac polyether polyol, a trimerization catalysts, a liquid FR additive, preferably, one FR additive, more preferably, a halogen free FR additive, and water, or water and a physical blowing agent as a blowing agent. The low hydroxyl functional aromatic polyester polyols enable the provision of readily processible, all liquid polyol components having a low viscosity as well as ASTM E84A Class A rated rigid polyurethane foams.

The metal chelated polyester polyol liquid is a reaction product of a chelating polyester polyol having a chelating moiety and a metal compound having a metal ion. The metal chelated polyether polyol liquid is a reaction product of a chelating polyether polyol having a chelating moiety and a metal compound having a metal ion. The chelating moiety of the chelating polyester polyol or the chelating polyether polyol chelates the metal ion to form the metal chelated polyester polyol liquid or the metal chelated polyether polyol liquid, respectively, having a mole ratio of the metal ion to the chelating moiety of 0.05:1 to 2:1.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides for an isocyanate-reactive composition that can react with an isocyanate compound in a reaction mixture to form a polyurethane-based foam. The isocyanate-reactive composition includes an isocyanate reactive compound and a combustion modifier composition. The isocyanate reactive compound has an isocyanate reactive moiety and an aromatic moiety. The combustion modifier composition includes both phosphorus from a halogen-free flame-retardant compound and a transition metal from a transition metal compound. The combustion modifier composition can have a molar ratio of the transition metal to phosphorus (mole transition metal:mole phosphorous) of 0.05:1 to 5:1.
