    摘要: A compression release engine brake assembly adapted for use with an internal combustion engine, and an exhaust valve (29) operable to open in a normal exhaust lift event (FIG. 9) and in a brake lift event (FIG. 15). The engine includes an exhaust valve actuating mechanism (23,31,37) for imparting reciprocal movement to said exhaust valve (29) in response to rotation of a cam shaft (11) including a cam profile (13), a normal lift portion (17) and a brake lift portion (19). The assembly includes a lost motion device (75) moveable between a normal lost motion condition (FIG. 4) and an actuated condition (FIG. 14) in response to movement of an input member (91). An energy storage spring (117) is operable, after being compressed to an energy storage condition (FIG. 12) to be able to bias the input member (91) toward a second position, effecting the actuated condition of the lost motion device (75). A latching mechanism (99,103-113,129,131) is operable to first displace the energy storage spring (117) to a compressed condition, and then release it just before the cam follower (21) traverses the brake lift portion (19), in response to the pivotal movement of the rocker arm assembly (23) which comprises part of the exhaust valve actuating mechanism.

    摘要: A valve deactivator assembly (13) for an internal combustion engine, the assembly including a drive rocker arm (39) receiving cyclical motion from an engine push rod (23), and a driven rocker arm (41) which engages the engine poppet valve (29). The rocker arms are biased by a lost motion spring (49) to a position in which the rocker arms align to define a latching chamber (63), having a moveable latch member (65) disposed therein and biased by a spring (67) toward a latched position (FIG. 1). An electromagnetic actuator assembly (81) is disposed adjacent the rocker arms (39,41) and in response to an input signal (88), exerts a force on an actuation shaft (93) and an actuation beam (97) to move the latch member (65) toward its unlatched position (FIG. 3). The invention provides an effective, compact valve deactivator which can change quickly between the latched and unlatched conditions.

    摘要: In a transmission inertia brake a ball ramp mechanism is used to load a clutch pack to slow a rotating transmission shaft where the clutch pack is carried on a one piece drive assembly having a gear section for meshing with a transmission gear, an extension section for engaging a thrust plate in an isolator assembly, a clutch section for engaging plurality of driven clutch plates in the clutch pack and a bearing section for rotational support within a brake housing. An armature having an angled peripheral surface engages a mating friction surface formed in an end plate to form a core clutch, the armature being magnetically pulled upon energization of an electrical coil energized by a power signal from a control unit supplied through a sealed electrical connector thereby introducing a frictional braking force on the armature to activate the ball ramp mechanism. The armature is nonrotatably connected to the control ring of the ball ramp mechanism through at least one connecting pin. A Belleville spring is used to apply an axial load on the ball ramp mechanism and to drive the star in a gerotor oil pump which interacts with a ring to pump cooling lubricant throughout the clutch pack in the ball ramp mechanism.

The ball ramp actuator includes an inner actuating plate (49) within the gear case, and an outer actuating plate (51) disposed external to the gear case. In order to initiate ramp up of the ball ramp device, an electromagnetic coil assembly (67) includes an annular coil (75) which is disposed in face-to-face relationship with the outer actuating plate (51). An annular drive plate (83) is disposed between the coil (75) and the outer actuating plate (51), and is drawn into frictional engagement with a layer of friction material (81) upon energization of the coil. The drive plate (83) is connected by pins (89) to be axially movable relative to the outer actuating plate, but fixed to rotate therewith, such that frictional engagement of the drive plate (83) retards rotation of the outer actuating plate (51).

An electrical coil is used to electromagnetically couple a control ring to the mainshaft gear using a clutch plate and an actuation ring is nonrotatably connected to the mainshaft. In an alternative embodiment, the actuation ring is formed as part of the jaw clutch and the control ring remains stationary relative to a mainshaft. A plurality of flux grooves are utilized to channel magnetic forces between the clutch plate and the mainshaft gear.

    摘要: A closed hydraulic system (22) is provided for transmitting steering movement to a rear wheel steering assembly (16) in response to steering movement of a front wheel steering assembly (14). The front wheel steering assembly is controlled by a steering wheel (18) and a power steering assembly (20). The closed hydraulic system (22) includes a pump assembly (56) and an actuator assembly (58) connected together by conduits (60,62) to define closed fluid flow branches (164,166) for moving a piston (112) in the actuator assembly in response to movement of a piston (78) in the pump assembly. Movement of the actuator piston is transmitted to the rear wheel steering assembly via first and second cam assemblies (122,124) which effect same direction rear wheel steering for rather small front wheel steering angles and which effect opposite direction rear wheel steering for greater front wheel steering angles. Pump assembly (56) includes first and second neutral valves (92,94) for intercommunicating opposite sides of the pump piston (78) with a chamber ( 83) when the piston is in a neutral position. System (22) also includes a reservoir (68) disposed above the normal fluid level of the system and exposed to atmospheric pressure.

System (22) may include a reservoir assembly (60) including a piston assembly (116) for maintaining a constant positive pressure in both branches, a dash pot (124) for preventing sudden steering angle changes of the rear wheels in the event of rapid fluid loss in either branch, and relief valve assemblies (126,126') for limiting the maximum pressure differential between the branches.
