    摘要： A system and method for communicating signals over a noisy channel is provided wherein an input signal may be sampled and modulated to make the signal more noise insensitive. In accordance with one embodiment, of the invention, an signal code modulation (SCM) scheme may be used wherein digital and analog signals representing the original signal are generated. In another embodiment, an original modulated signal may be demodulated and then remodulated using a more robust modulation scheme. The system may be used to a variety of applications including wireless internet access.

    摘要： A tunable element in the microwave frequency range is described that may include one or more tunable elements that are directly digitally controlled by a digital bus connecting a digital control circuit to each controlled element. In particular, each digital signal is filtered by a digital isolation technique so that the signal reaches the tunable elements with very low noise. The low noise digital signals are then converted to analog control voltages. The direct D/A conversion is accomplished by a special D/A converter which is manufactured as an integral part of a substrate. This D/A converter in accordance with the invention may consist of a resistor ladder or a directly digitally controlled capacitor. The direct digitally controlled capacitor may be a cantilevered type capacitor having multiple separate electrodes or sub-plates representing binary bits that may be used to control the capacitor. A low cost microwave oscillator is disclosed in which some of the filters and oscillators are direct digitally tuned elements.

    摘要： An ophthalmic aspirator and cystotome having a hand-held, motorized instrument which is operated by a battery-run control system. The instrument includes a disposable coaxial aspirator-irrigator tip and a wormdrive mechanism for bidirectional, variable speed operation and also includes a disposable scalpel tip with infusion/irrigation orifice for communication with an intraveneous solution bag. The scalpel tip is coupled through a clutch mechanism to the motor, which may be adjusted by the control system to make single or repeated cuts in either of two rotary directions. The aspirator's most frequently needed controls are mounted on the handpiece to provide an easily operable instrument of great precision for use in eye surgery. The instrument features an electronic control circuit housed in part within a desk top or suspendable unit and in part within the handpiece. The circuit may be switched between the aspirator mode and the cystotome mode and provides control signals to a motor carried within the handpiece. In the aspirator mode the circuit generates aspirate and backflush signals at the touch of a control switch mounted on the handpiece. Flow rates are continuously variable by means of a potentiometer control in the butt of the handpiece. In the cystotome mode the control switch commands either single cutting strokes or repeated cutting strokes in either of two rotary directions, the direction being selected by the potentiometer control.

The serial bit stream, including forward error correction (FEC) and all other overhead, is prepared in a digital circuit, such as a filed programmable gate array (FPGA) and is output serially, using SERDES devices inside the FPGA, as two separate channels known as “I-channel” and “Q-channel”.

    摘要： A hand-held or portable diathermy apparatus is disclosed comprising a housing, a battery power supply preferably within the housing, and at least one electrode carried by the housing. The apparatus includes a radio frequency power generator for generating an oscillatory current ranging between about 1 kilohertz and about 20 megahertz, and supplying this oscillatory current to the electrodes. A manually operated switch is carried by the housing for selective energization of the radio frequency generator whereby, upon energization thereof, the apparatus is capable of being cycled several times outputting up to about 20 watts of power for up to 20 seconds or more on each cycle.
