摘要: A motor-driven surgical instrument that may comprise (i) a moveable drive member that is driven in a first direction when the electric motor operates in a first direction and that is driven in a second direction when the electric motor operates in a second direction. Movement of the drive member causes movement of the moveable component of the end effector, and (ii) a motor control circuit connected to the motor for controlling the motor. The motor control circuit may comprise a switching circuit that, upon actuation, reverses the direction of the motor from the first direction to the second direction. The switching circuit may be actuatable separately through each of: (i) actuation of a moveable actuator of the switching circuit through movement of the drive member at least in the first direction; and (ii) manual actuation by a user of the surgical instrument.

摘要: A surgical fastener apparatus including a handle, an elongated shaft having a proximal end attached to the handle and a distal end extending therefrom. An end effector comprising a pair of jaws pivoted at a proximal end thereof and movable between an open and closed position, and a cartridge containing a plurality of surgical fasteners, the cartridge attached to the end effector. An electrically powered actuator for deploying the surgical fasteners. An electrically activated reverse mechanism for moving the elongated member from a distal most position within the end effector to a proximal position, the electrically activated reverse mechanism moves the elongated member proximally after the elongated member has moved to the distal most position by moving the trigger to the open position, and wherein after activation of the reverse mechanism proximal movement of the elongated member can be stopped by returning the trigger to its closed position.

摘要: A surgical stapler, or fastening instrument, may generally comprise a layer, such as a tissue thickness compensator, for example, releasably attached to a fastener cartridge and/or anvil by a flowable attachment portion. The flowable attachment portion may be indefinitely flowable. The flowable attachment portion may be flowable from the time that layer is installed to the fastener cartridge to the time in which the layer is implanted to patient tissue. The flowable attachment portion may comprise a pressure sensitive adhesive. The flowable attachment portion may comprise an adhesive laminate comprising a base layer comprising the tissue thickness compensator and an adhesive layer on at least a portion of a surface of the base layer comprising the pressure sensitive adhesive. Articles of manufacture comprising flowable attachment portion and methods of making and using the flowable attachment portion are also described.

摘要: A surgical stapling instrument can comprise a handle comprising a housing comprising a battery dock cavity, a proximal end, a distal end, a pistol grip comprising a proximal side and a distal side, and an electric motor positioned in the housing. The instrument further comprises a shaft extending distally from the distal end of the handle, and a staple cartridge extending distally from the shaft, wherein the staple cartridge comprises a plurality of staples removably stored therein. The instrument further comprises a battery extending proximally with respect to the proximal side of the pistol grip when the battery is removably seated in the battery dock cavity, wherein the battery comprises a counterbalance to the shaft and the staple cartridge about the pistol grip, and wherein the battery is configured to supply electrical power to the electric motor.

The battery packs may comprise a switch or other mechanism for interconnecting the plurality of cells and may also comprise, or be used in conjunction with, a discharge switch or plug configured to electrically connect an anode of the battery pack to a cathode of the battery pack, for example, via a resistive element.

摘要: A surgical system is disclosed. The surgical system comprises a surgical device comprising a battery dock. The surgical system further comprises a battery unit comprising at least one battery cell and a battery drain. In a first state, the battery drain is not electrically coupled to the at least one battery cell. In a second state, the battery drain is electrically coupled to the at least one battery cell to discharge the at least one battery cell. The battery drain transitions from the first state to the second state upon attachment of the battery unit to the battery dock.

摘要: An anvil-attachable layer for use with a surgical stapler, or fastening instrument, wherein a proximal end portion of the layer is attached to a staple cartridge assembly, for example. The layer may be attached to the staple cartridge assembly by an adhesive, weld, or a staple-cartridge-based clamp, wherein the attachment is weak enough to allow the layer to pull away from the staple cartridge assembly with stapled tissue. Alternatively, the layer can include two or more lateral slits that define a connector region that can be cut by a knife of a surgical stapler to release the layer.

摘要: An anvil-attachable layer and a retainer for aligning and attaching the layer to an anvil of a surgical stapler. Embodiments of the anvil-attachable layer can include one or more attachment features extending from the layer. A retainer can push the attachment features into a knife slot in the anvil so that the fit between the attachment features and the slot hold the anvil-attachable layer in place. Other embodiments of the anvil-attachable layer can include deployable attachment features formed in the layer. The deployable attachment features can be deployed from an undeployed position substantially in a plane defined by the layer to a deployed position extending out of the plane. In the deployed position, the deployable attachment features can extend into a slot in an anvil. A retainer can include features to push the deployable attachment features into the deployed position.

摘要: A fastener cartridge can comprise a cartridge body comprising fastener cavities, fasteners at least partially stored within the cartridge body, and a layer positioned over the cartridge body. The cartridge body can include a proximal end and a distal end. Similarly, the layer can include a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end of the layer can extend distally with respect to the distal end of the cartridge body. Furthermore, the layer can include a distal portion which extends distally with respect to the fastener cavities defined in the cartridge body. This distal portion can be positioned against the tissue being fastened and can flexibly support the tissue after the layer has been implanted against the tissue. The layer may include a proximal portion which extends proximally with respect to the fastener cavities which can flexibly support the tissue after the layer has been implanted.
