The present invention provides a rubber composition having adequate foamability, uses thereof, a copolymer contained in the rubber composition, a rubber composition capable of providing a cross-linked foam, which has a low specific gravity and an excellent shape-retaining property even when the usage of a nonconjugated polyene is reduced, and a cross-linked rubber and a cross-linked foam, which are produced from the rubber composition. A copolymer (A) according to the present invention is a copolymer including structural units derived from ethylene [A], an α-olefin [B], a nonconjugated polyene [C-1], in which one carbon-carbon double bond (C═C) polymerizable with a metallocene catalyst is present in one molecule, and a nonconjugated polyene [C-2], in which two bonds of C═C polymerizable with the metallocene catalyst are present in one molecule, and being synthesized with the metallocene catalyst, wherein (1) the units derived from the component [B] constitute 10 to 50 percent by mole, (2) the total of the units derived from the component [C-1] and the units derived from the component [C-2] is 1.0 to 6.0 percent by mole, (3) the molar ratio of the units derived from the component [C-1] to the units derived from the component [C-2] is 75/25 to 99.5/0.5, (4) [ML (1+4) 100° C.] is 10 to 200, and (5) 50>activation energy of fluidization (kJ/mol)>35 is satisfied.

The crosslinkable rubber composition of the invention is crosslinkable by hot air, and a hot-air crosslinked rubber sheet thereof has no scratch on the surface in a hardness test using a pencil of HB and has a compression set of not more than 70% after a heat treatment at 150° C. for 22 hours. The rubber composition comprises an ethylene/α-olefin/non-conjugated polyene random copolymer rubber comprising a specific vinyl end group-containing norbornene compound, a SiH group-containing compound having at least two SiH groups in one molecule, and if necessary, an addition reaction catalyst comprising a platinum group element and a reaction inhibitor. The automobile weatherstrip, hose, rubber vibration insulator, belt, sealing material, expanded product, covered electric wire, electric wire joint, electric insulating part and household rubber product according to the invention comprise the above-mentioned rubber composition. The rubber composition has a high crosslinking rate and excellent productivity to produce crosslinked rubber molded products, is capable of undergoing hot-air crosslinking such as HAV or UHF and is capable of providing crosslinked rubber molded products having excellent compression set resistance, strength properties, heat resistance, weathering resistance and abrasion resistance.

A pellet comprising 100 parts by weight of an ethylene/α-olefin/non-conjugated polyene copolymer (A) containing a constitutional unit derived from non-conjugated polyene represented by a specific Formula, 1 to 150 parts by weight of a plasticizer (B) relative to 100 parts by weight of the above (A), and 0 to 30 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin (C) relative to 100 parts by weight of the above (A), is obtained, and a vulcanized rubber or a thermoplastic elastomer which does not cause blocking and has excellent crosslinking reactivity and thus excellent properties can be prepared therefrom. According to a process for preparation of a thermoplastic elastomer using the above-mentioned pellet, a thermoplastic elastomer having excellent compression set or dispersibility can be economically and efficiently prepared. In particular, since it can be prepared continuously using a twin screw extruder, the process is excellent from an industrial viewpoint. According to a process for preparation of a pellet of an ethylene copolymer rubber composition according to the invention, it is possible to obtain a copolymer pellet which has a low degree of crystallinity, does not cause blocking, has excellent crosslinking reactivity and has carbon-carbon double bonds of excellent crosslinking reactivity.

The present invention provides a raw rubber lapping film formed of an ethylene·&agr;-olefin random copolymer comprising ethylene unit and an &agr;-olefin unit having 4 to 20 carbon atoms and a raw rubber bale lapped with this film. Since the film is superior in strength and release properties and has good dispersibility in ethylene·&agr;-olefin copolymer rubber, the operation of lapping raw rubber with a film, the operation of stripping a film from a lapped raw rubber bale and the operation of separating each of a plurality of raw rubber bales are carried out easily and yet there is no adverse effect on the subsequent rubber processing step without stripping the film by heating at a temperature higher than the melting point of the film at the time of kneading.
