A method of producing a porous cellulose comprises a process of lyophilizing a mixed liquid containing cellulose nanofibers and a dispersion medium, wherein the dispersion medium is a mixed dispersion medium of water and an organic solvent dissolving in water, a concentration of the organic solvent in the mixed dispersion medium is 2 to 40 mass %, and a solid content concentration of the cellulose nanofibers in the mixed liquid is 0.001 to 5 mass %.
