摘要: A circuit fault detector and interrupter which consists of parallel current conduction paths, including a path through a mechanical contactor and a path through a power electronics switch having active feedback control. A fault can be detected by a fault detection circuit within 50 μS of the occurrence of the fault, causing the mechanical contactor to be opened and the fault current to be commutated via a laminated, low-inductance bus through the power electronics switch. The power electronics switch is thereafter turned off as soon as possible, interrupting the fault current and absorbing the inductive energy in the circuit. The fault current can be interrupted within 200 microseconds of the occurrence of the fault, and the device reduces or eliminates arcing when the mechanical contactor is opened.

摘要: A portable induction heating tool is provided as a membrane roofing tool for use in sealing anchor plates with a heat-activated adhesive to a membrane roofing member. The tool uses two different audible tones so two tools can be used simultaneously on a single roof, while allowing a user to easily distinguish between the operation of both tools. The main housing containing electronics is weather-tight, and requires no forced-cooling devices. The controller automatically performs data logging functions, such as counting the number of anchor plates per job or per day that have been properly placed, counting the number of activation events for a tool's life, tracking the number of faults which occur as the tool is being used, and the controller can identify the type of fault that occurs during operation of the tool. The controller also stores energy setting changes in memory.

摘要: A portable induction tool is provided for soldering or brazing sections of metal pipe together. A work coil head (with induction coil) is U-shaped, allowing placement of the head around lengths of pipe, heating a susceptor (e.g., the pipe) to form a joint, and then to be withdrawn after the pipe joint is made. In one form, the tool uses heat pipes to remove thermal energy from the head, and also a heat exchanger for higher-powered units. Power capacitors are generally included with the induction (work) coil to create a tank circuit of a resonant frequency. The induction coil uses Litz wire, copper tubing, or heat pipes with a conductive outer skin to carry the high-current being delivered to the induction coil. The induction coil has a general racetrack configuration, which is typically wound in a U-shape (or as a semicircle) as a single winding, with multiple turns.

摘要: A compact electrical bus for transmission of three-phase electrical power through longitudinally elongated insulatively sandwiched lamina carrying respective power phases. A plurality of electrically conductive longitudinally elongated lamina have transversely off set parts respecting one another and a plurality of electrically conductive longitudinally elongated lamina devoid of offsets. The pluralities of lamina are sandwiched together between layers of insulation. When assembled, offsets of one lamina transversely align in a nested relationship with an off set of a second lamina. The lamina devoid of offsets further nests within the offset of the second lamina.

摘要: An electrical switch structure which employs superconductive material. A magnetizable core is encompassed by a body of superconductive material. The body of superconductive material has a superconductive state and a normal resistive state and can be placed in either state. The magnetizable core is also encompassed by at least one electrically conductive winding through which electrical current flows to create a magnetic flux within the magnetizable core. When the body of superconductive material is in its superconductive state current is induced therein by the magnetic flux in the magnetizable core. Current flow in the body of superconductive creates a magnetic flux in the magnetizable core which cancels the magnetic flux which is created by current flow in the electrically conductive winding. Thus, the state of the body of superconductive material determines the magnetic flux conditions in the magnetizable core, and thus current flow in a winding which encompasses the magnetizable core is controlled by controlling the state of the body of superconductive material.
