摘要: A connector is described of the type that has contacts lying in insulative material in a housing, wherein a separate positioner (24 in FIG. 2) of insulative material is molded about each contact (22) to form a terminal device (20), and the terminal devices can be arranged in a variety of configurations. Each terminal device includes an elongated metal contact with front and rear end portions and a middle, and an insulative positioner (24) molded about the middle. The terminal devices lie in the housing with the molded positioners of adjacent contact devices substantially abutting each other and holding the contact ends in a predetermined pattern, wherein the axes of all terminal devices extend parallel to each other. The middles of the contacts are hollow and include access openings (52 in FIG. 5) into which molding material can flow, so the molded material of the positioner seals the middle of the inside of each contact. The positioners are preferably of triangular cross section, as seen along an axis of the contact, and are positioned in a row with the flat sides (71) of alternate contacts lying in a common plane and with an apex (76) of a positioner therebetween lying on that plane.

摘要: A flexible printed circuit is electrically connected to a printed circuit board or the like without the use of intermediate conducting contact elements. The flexible printed circuit has conductive strips thereon each terminating in a conductive pad. The pads and the areas of the insulation sheet of the circuit underlying the pads are deformed to provide contact projections defining cavities therebelow. A backing layer of elastomeric material underlying the insulation sheet embodies points which extend into the cavities. The flexible printed circuit is clamped against the printed circuit board causing the elastomeric layer to be compressed so that the points fill the contact cavities to produce a high-force localized contact between the contact projections and the traces on the printed circuit board. A multi-layer, flexible printed circuit arrangement is also disclosed.

摘要: Binder, filler, and refractory compositions and methods of using and making these compositions are disclosed. The binder composition comprises colloidal silica, a liquid material containing Si-OH groups, a solvent which is capable of solubilizing the liquid material and the colloidal silica, and at least one aprotic, non-ionic, non-metallic, organic compound which contains at least one element selected from P, S, B and N and which stabilizes the binder composition against self-gelling. The liquid material and the colloidal silica are present in a ratio by weight of from about 10:1 to about 1:10 respectively. The liquid material has at least about 20% by weight SiO.sub.2. The colloidal silica contains at least about 15% by weight SiO.sub.2. The solvent and the organic compound are present in amounts so as to solubilize the liquid material and the colloidal silica, to provide a binder composition which is stable against self-gellation, and to provide a binder composition which gels to a single phase.

摘要: A rapid response health care communications system for providing rapid and reliable health services to patients located within or outside a health care facility, such as an acute-care hospital, includes personnel locator for identifying both the type and the location of health care personnel, such as doctors, nurses, interns, and the like; and personnel communicating network for communicating with certain of such personnel from a central location to direct them to patient locations where their need is paramount. A patient response communication network is provided for communicating with the patient or with the patient's room from the central location to identify the patient's needs and the personnel required to respond to those needs. A central console at the central location includes a plurality of locator panels, one for each floor of the facility, each of which include indicator lamps for identifying the particular location of the health care personnel within the facility. The console further includes a device for storing and retrieving a patient's medical profile to assist the health care coordinator in making an informed judgment as to the type of care required for a particular patient and the type of health care personnel needed to provide the required care. In addition, an out-of-hospital communication network using auto-dialing telephones is provided to allow outpatients to communicate from outside the facility with the health care coordinator to assist the outpatients in rapidly and efficiently receiving appropriate advice and health care as indicated by the patient medical profile and for responding to emergency situations.

摘要: A method of uniformly breaking glass fibers in a bundle of fibers in which the apex of a cone is inserted into the end of the bundle. The fibers in the bundle are distributed in a single plane about the surface of the cone with the free ends of the fibers extending beyond the base of the cone. A sleeve on the bundle is shifted forwardly toward the base of the cone to firmly grip the fibers therebetween. The outer surfaces of the fibers are then scratched and a compressive force is exerted to the free end of the fiber bundle to cause the fibers to bend and break at the base of the cone.
