Photopolymerizable dental compositions are proposed which are curable with visible light and which apart from usual auxiliary substances and additives contain polymerizable monomers of the group of the poly-thiol compounds and of the group of the poly-ene compounds and a photoinitiator and which, in order to obtain a curing free from any smeary layer, contain at least 10% by weight poly-thiol compound(s), at least 10% by weight poly-ene compound(s) and 0.01 to 5% by weight of at least one acyl phosphine compound as photoinitiator. A method for bonding or potting substrates by means of cationically polymerizable masses being activated before joining or potting by irradiation with visible light and curing after joining or potting of the substrates without the irradiation being continued is described as well as an apparatus for executing this method. By irradiation with light having a wavelength of from 400 to 600 nm for photo-activation of said masses, a prolonged pot life of said masses without reducing their wetting ability during pot life is obtained such that the masses are unlimitedly applicable for more than 30, preferably more than 100 sec. after exposure is finished. The apparatus according to the invention comprises a source of irradiation which exclusively emits light having a wavelength of >400 nm.

For the attachment of components using the SMT method a procedure is suggested in which the adhesive used is activated prior to fitting of the components to the circuit board by irradiation with light having a wavelength in the range of 200 to 600 nm to such an extent that the desired initial tackiness is maintained and there is no formation of skin on the surface of the adhesive. This makes it possible to cause the adhesive composition to fully cure in a shorter time and at lower temperature than has been possible so far without the wettability of the adhesive during the fitting of the components to the circuit board being impaired.

The composition is suitable as dental impression composition and has, in the completely polymerized state, even with multiple disinfections in an aqueous disinfecting solution, a continuing good ability to flow on (small wetting angle) and an unchanged dimensional stability.

The transitional zones between adjacent spheres (23 . . . 25) are concavely rounded. This shape is especially suited for use with a glass ionomer-type bone cement, because the shaft exerts substantially only compressive forces on the cement, whereas tensile and notch stresses, with respect to which this kind of cement exhibits little resistance, are largely avoided.
