摘要: Solid, waxy 1-olefins may be converted to low viscosity liquid products by carrying out a double bond isomerization in the presence of a solid acidic catalyst such as an acidic clay or a zeolite under mild conditions. The olefin isomer products are useful in the formulation of well fluids such as drilling muds, especially useful in offshore drilling. The preferred oils for making up the well fluids are formulated with a hydrocarbon oil blend of the low viscosity olefin isomer together with a C.sub.12 to C.sub.18 paraffinic hydrocarbon of petroleum origin and a C.sub.10 to C.sub.32 olefin such as tetradecene-1. The fluids exhibit good biodegradability and are non-toxic to marine organisms; they also meet viscosity and pour points specifications for formulation into oil based muds.

摘要: This invention is directed to a lubricant composition that is comprised of a continuous phase and a discontinuous phase, i.e., a two phase lubricant composition. The continuous phase and the discontinuous phase of the lubricant of this invention are oil or oil type compositions that are essentially insoluble in one another. The lubricant composition is comprised of a continuous phase base oil that is comprised of a low viscosity Group II, III, IV or GTL base stock or a blend of at least two of the Group II, III, IV and GTL base stocks, optionally including a low viscosity Group V base stock, with the continuous phase base oil having, independently, a viscosity of from 1 to 100 cSt at 100° C. The lubricant composition is further comprised of a discontinuous phase that is comprised of an ester composition having a mean average droplet size of from 0.01 microns to 20 microns, in which the ester composition is comprised of an ester compound having no ether linkages.

摘要: Liquid olefin oligomers are produced by the oligomerization of C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alpha olefin alone or with ethylene as a co-monomer. The oligomers having high viscosity index and a structure which is characterized by a regio-irregularity of at least 20 percent, usually from 20 to 40 percent. The olefins are oligomerized with a reduced valence state chromium oxide catalyst on a silica support, usually at a temperature from 90.degree. to 250.degree. C., although lower temperatures can also be used with ethylene as a con-monomer. The liquid oligomerization products can be produced in wide range of viscosities including the direct production of low viscosity lubricants having high viscosity index.

摘要: A process is disclosed for improving the thermal stability of polyalpha-olefin lubricants by contacting the lubricant with an acidic catalyst for a time and at a temperature sufficient to achieve the skeletal isomerization of the molecular structure of the lubricant. The reaction is carried out preferably on unhydrogenated synthetic lubricants in contact with Lewis acid catalysts. Following the isomerization reaction, the unsaturated lubricant is hydrogenated to produce lubricant with better thermal stability. Surprisingly, when the isomerization reaction is carried out using unsaturated oligomer produced from the oligomerization of alpha-olefins in contact with reduced Group VIB metal oxide catalyst on porous support as starting material the viscometric properties of the lubricant, e.g., viscosity and VI, are not significantly altered, although the thermal stability of the lubricant is substantially increased. The reaction of the present invention may be carried out in the presence of a solvent or neat. Improvements in thermal stability are observed over a wide range of catalyst concentration. Concentrations of about 10 weight percent are preferred with aluminum chloride catalyst.

摘要: Novel homopolymer and copolymer compositions produced from the polymerization of non-conjugated dienes have been discovered. The novel compositions are produced by an equally novel process comprising cyclopolymerization of non-conjugated dienes employing reduced valence state Group VIB metal oxide catalyst on porous support. The preferred catalyst comprises carbon monoxide reduced chromium on silica. Copolymers are formed by copolymerization of non-conjugated dienes with 1-alkenes in contact with the activated chromium on silica catalyst. The compositions are useful as lubricants and additives.

摘要: A process for the production of hydrocarbon lubricant basestock comprises contacting C.sub.2 to C.sub.20 alpha-olefin feedstock, or mixtures thereof, e.g., 1-decene, under heterogeneous oligomerization conditions with a catalyst comprising halides of a metal component anchored on an adsorbent inorganic oxide solid, e.g., silica, by an oxygen-metal bond to provide a reaction mixture containing said hydrocarbon lubricant basestock. The catalyst is prepared by contacting the inorganic oxide solid with organic metal halide of the formula RMXY wherein R is alkyl or aryl, M is aluminum, X is halogen and Y is selected from the group consisting of halogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkoxy, and amido moieties.

摘要: Aromatic compounds are alkylated with C.sub.20 -C.sub.1300 olefinic oligomers using an acidic alkylation catalyst to produce alkylated aromatic products, usually alkylaromatic hydrocarbons. The olefinic oligomers used as alkylating agents are prepared from 1-alkene oligomerization in contact with reduced metal oxide catalyst, preferably reduced chromium oxide on a silica support. The alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons retain the unique features of the alkylating olefinic oligomer and exhibit high viscosity index and low pour point. If the alkylation is carried out under certain combinations of conditions, especially using a Lewis acid catalysts such as aluminum trichloride and at higher temperatures, the alkyl portion of the product will undergo isomerization. The alkylaromatic compositions show improved thermal stability and are useful as lubricant basestocks and additives for improved antiwear properties, antioxidant and other properties.

摘要: Aromatic compounds are alkylated with C.sub.20 -C.sub.1300 olefinic oligomers using an acidic alkylation catalyst to produce alkylated aromatic products, usually alkylaromatic hydrocarbons. The olefinic oligomers used as alkylating agents are prepared from 1-alkene oligomerization in contact with reduced metal oxide catalyst, preferably reduced chromium oxide on a silica support. The alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons retain the unique features of the alkylating olefinic oligomer and exhibit high viscosity index and low pour point.
