摘要:
Methods and percutaneous devices for assessing, and treating patients having sympathetically mediated disease, involving augmented peripheral chemoreflex and heightened sympathetic tone by reducing chemosensor input to the nervous system via percutaneous carotid body ablation.

A method and apparatus for treatment of heart failure by increasing secretion of endogenous naturetic hormones ANP and BNP such as by stimulation of the heart atria. Heart pacing is done at an atrial contraction rate that is increased and can be higher than the ventricular contraction rate. Pacing may include mechanical distension of the right atrial appendage. An implantable device is used to periodically cyclically stretch the walls of the appendage with an implanted balloon.

A method and apparatus for treatment of hypertension and heart failure by increasing vagal tone and secretion of endogenous atrial hormones by excitory pacing of the heart atria. Atrial pacing is done during the ventricular refractory period resulting in atrial contraction against closed AV valves, and atrial contraction rate that is higher than the ventricular contraction rate. Pacing results in the increased atrial wall stress. An implantable device is used to monitor ECG and pace the atria in a nonphysiologic manner.

A fluid removal apparatus comprising a blood removal catheter for insertion into a peripheral vein or artery and having a size 16 standard gage needle or less; a filter having a blood inlet port coupled to the blood removal catheter, a blood outlet port, an excess fluid removal port, and a blood flow passage with porous membrane which passes fluids to the fluid removal port and retains solutes of 60,000 Daltons or greater, and a blood return catheter for inserting into a peripheral vein or artery and having a size of 16 standard gage needle or less.

A system has been developed for injecting a biodegradable pericardial constraint including: a biodegradable viscoelastic substance (BES); an external injection container for the BES; a cannula having a distal section adapted to be inserted into a pericardial sac of a mammalian heart and a proximal section connectable to the external injection container; wherein BES from the injection container is injected into the pericardial sac through the cannula.

A method of driving a toxin through a patient's kidneys, the method includes administering a diuretic to the patient to induce increased urine flow and collecting urine expelled by the patient. The amount of urine expelled by the patient is determined based on the collected urine. The patient is infused with fluid from a fluid source. Diuresis is induced by automatically adjusting the amount of fluid infused into the patient from the fluid source based on the determined amount of urine expelled by the patient to at least balance the amount of urine expelled by the patient with the amount of fluid infused into the patient to drive the toxin out of the patient's kidneys.

A method includes setting a hydration goal and administering a diuretic to the patient to induce increased urine flow and collecting urine expelled by the patient. The amount of urine expelled by the patient is determined based on the collected urine. The patient is infused with fluid from a fluid source. The amount of fluid infused into the patient is determined. Diuresis is induced by automatically and continuously adjusting the amount of fluid infused into the patient from the fluid source to meet the hydration goal based on the set hydration goal, the determined amount of urine expelled by the patient and the fluid infused.
摘要:
A patient hydration system and method wherein a urine collection system is connected to the patient. An infusion system is also connected to the patient. An infusion pump is connected to a source of hydration fluid. A control subsystem is responsive to the amount of urine output by the patient and configured to automatically adjust the infusion rate of the infusion pump based on the urine output by the patient.
摘要:
A method and apparatus for treatment of hypertension by electric stimulation of coronary artery baroreceptors wherein stimulation electrodes are implanted in the left coronary artery, periarterialy or in an adjacent coronary vein. Stimulation is non excitatory and does not cause heart contractions. Stimulation can be applied during the ventricular refractory period resulting in baroreceptor activation and subsequent reduction of blood pressure. An implantable device monitors ECG and applies to a field of stimulation of baroreceptors.

A method and apparatus for treatment of cervicogenic headaches by transvascular application of stimulation energy to nerves in the neck and head. A catheter equipped with electrodes is inserted into a vertebral or occipital vein in proximity to peripheral nerves that conduct pain signals. An external to the body or implanted generator is used to apply stimulation energy to the targeted nerves.
