    摘要: A method and system are disclosed for facilitating the timing (e.g., the known relative timing differences) of base stations (BSs) in asynchronous CDMA mobile communications systems. A plurality of mobile stations (MSs) measure the relative time differences between various pairs of BSs, and these measurements are stored by the BSs. A source BS sends to an MS, in a neighbor list message, estimates of the relative time difference between the source BS and each of the BSs on the neighboring cell list. Each BS on the list can maintain a relative time difference estimate table, which can be updated continuously from the reports received from MSs. Subsequently, the BSs can send entries from this table to the MS in the neighbor list message. Using this novel technique, the BSs have known relative timing differences. Consequently, when the MS initiates a cell-search for a candidate BS, the MS already has an estimate of the timing of that BS as compared to its source BS. As such, the resulting cell-search procedure has a lower level of complexity and thus can be accomplished much quicker than with prior procedures. In addition, the relative time difference estimates can be compared with corresponding time differences that are measured by a second mobile station. Based on this comparison, the propagation delays of signals between the second MS and various BSs can be calculated to determine the position of the second MS.

    摘要: A method and system for use in determining the position of a mobile terminal in a CDMA mobile communications system is disclosed, whereby a different than usual spreading code is used when TOA measurements are being performed, but information is allowed to be transmitted while those TOA measurements are being performed. In one embodiment, the length of the different spreading codes used is equal to one symbol length. In a second embodiment, a mobile terminal uses a long spreading code and short spreading code prior to making TOA measurements. When TOA measurements are to be made, the serving base station orders the mobile terminal to change the spreading code by terminating the use of the long code and continuing use of the short code. Alternatively, when the TOA measurements are to be made, the serving base station orders the mobile terminal to substitute a second, predetermined short code for the long code being used, and to continue use of the first short code. The TOA measurements are then performed in at least three base stations, and the position of the mobile terminal is derived from this TOA information. The serving base station then orders the mobile terminal to resume normal operations using the long code.

    摘要: A method and an IPTV server (302) for enabling playout of one or more media objects for a subscriber. A current connection state and capabilities are maintained in the IPTV server for a set of devices (304, 304a) associated to the subscriber. The IPTV server further sends (3:3) a list of the devices to a first device (300), comprising current connection states of the devices. When the IPTV server receives from the first device a first indication (3:4) indicating a wanted media object and a second indication (3:5) indicating a selected second device (304), the IPTV server sends (3:6) a download instruction with a media reference to the selected second device. The download instruction instructs the second device to download and prebuffer (3:7) data of at least an opening part of the wanted media object based on the media reference. Thereby, a user can start playout of the wanted media object on the second device immediately without having to wait for session setup and downloading of enough data for playout.

    摘要: A method and system are disclosed by which a round-trip calculation is used to determine the distance between a mobile radio station (MS) and a radio base station (BS) using the apparent uplink and downlink signal propagation air-times (e.g., T-up and T-down). As such, no absolute time reference is required. The MS and BS report to a service node in the mobile network the local departure and arrival times of the uplink and downlink signals, and calculate the apparent air-times, T-up and T-down. The distance, D, between the MS and BS can be calculated as D=c(T-up+T-down)/2, where "c" equals the speed of light. The distances, D1, D2 and D3, to at least three base stations whose locations are known, can be used in a triangulation algorithm to determine the MS's position.

    摘要: An object with embodiments of the present invention is to achieve a solution for fast channel change that improves bandwidth utilization, wherein the fast channel change is accomplished by initiating a unicast stream until a multicast stream can provide the desired media. The bandwidth utilization is achieved by delaying the multicast session and by terminating the unicast session at the latest when the multicast session starts. The delay of the multicast session is dependent on the network latency. Latency in this context refers to the time passed from when the client sends an IGMP JOIN message until it receives the first packet of the multicast stream.
