摘要: A method of monitoring the status of a current ovulation cycle of an individual human female subject, involving testing of the body fluid concentration of an analyte of significance in relation to the status of the ovulation cycle, such as urinary E3G, during at least part of the pre-ovulation phase of the current ovulation cycle of the individual subject, and identification from the results of such testing an analyte concentration change indicative of imminent ovulation, relative to an analyte concentration reference value that has been adapted to the individual human subject on the basis of analyte concentration test data obtained from the individual human subject during one or more previous ovulation cycles. Preferably testing for said analyte concentration during the current ovulation cycle is commenced a plurality of days (preferably at least 5) following the onset of menses but at least 2 numerical days in advance of the earliest numerical day on which actual ovulation has occurred in one or more previous ovulation cycles in the same individual subject.

摘要: A process for carrying out a specific binding assay by reacting (a) a sample under assay for the possible presence of a substance being tested for, (b) a specific binding partner for the substance being tested for, immobilised on a solid support, and (c) a specific binding partner for the substance being tested for which is conjugated to a detectable marker, to thereby form a complex by reacting between whatever quantities are present of the substance being tested for in (a) with reagents (b) and (c). The marker is immobilised to the support via the substance being tested for, and is detected or assayed as an index of the quantity present in the sample (a) of any of the substance. The reaction ingredients (a), (b) and (c) are all mixed in a single step for reaction in a single reaction liquid. Competitive interference between the binding reactions of the substance being tested for and reagents (b) and (c) is avoided by use of monoclonal antibodies of narrow and different, non-interfering specificity, reaction reagent (b) is immobilized on the surface of a displacer body.

摘要: Effective immunity against coccidiosis can be imparted to poultry if the birds are reared on a regular diet containing added viable sporulated coccidia oocysts at a level sufficient only to induce sub-clinical infection. Preferably the oocyst-containing diet is presented to the birds as soon as they are able to ingest solid food, and contains from 10 to 10,000 oocysts per kg of nutrient feed material. The simultaneous administration of an anti-coccidial drug at a curative level can help to control the immunity-producing infection. The oocyst-containing feedstuff of the invention can be prepared using solid free-flowing pre-mixes or aqueous concentrates, containing appropriate numbers of oocysts together with edible thickening agents. The oocysts can be protected against loss of viability through dehydration by being encapsulated. Growth of the immunized birds is sustained even when they are exposed to a severe oocyst challenge sufficient to induce serious infection in unimmunized birds.
