摘要:
A method of coating a medical appliance is provided that includes contacting a coating material with a first side of a mesh nebulizer. The mesh nebulizer includes at least one aperture. The method also includes vibrating the mesh nebulizer and arranging the medical appliance in a region of a second side of the mesh nebulizer. The second side is opposite the first side. A medical appliance is provided having a coating applied by a method. A system is provided for coating a medical appliance that includes a coating source, a mesh nebulizer, an arrangement for vibrating the mesh nebulizer, and an arrangement for holding the medical appliance. A method is provided of coating a medical appliance that includes directing at least two small aperture tubes at a collision region and forcing a coating material out of the apertures of the tubes. The method also includes arranging the medical appliance in another region adjacent to the collision region.

The present invention is directed to methods, processes, and systems for delivering therapeutic agent to a medical device. Under some methods, processes, and systems of the invention, particles including a magnetic material and a therapeutic agent may be directed towards a medical device via magnetic attraction. In another embodiment particles including a magnetic material may force a therapeutic agent/solvent solution into porous matrix by using a magnetic attraction. In still another embodiment, a medical device having at least a portion thereof including a magnetic material is used to attract and adhere particles comprising magnetic material and therapeutic agent to a target surface of the medical device, wherein the particles are fused to the target surface.

A method and device for coating a medical device, such as a stent, including forming coating droplets using a mesh nebulizer and transporting the coating droplets to the medical device, for example through a converging chamber. The coating droplets may be accelerated to a speed sufficient to break the coating droplets into smaller droplets upon impact with the medical device. The mesh nebulizer may have a convex inlet side and may form a converging plume of coating droplets. The mesh nebulizer may have one or more groups of pores, the pores within each group may be subject to similar amplitudes of vibration. The coating material may be heated or cooled prior to nebulizing. The chamber may include baffles configured to allow only a predetermined size range of coating particles to pass.

The present invention is directed to methods and systems for aligning and coating a medical device during a single coating cycle. A first section of an applicator may apply a contact force to surfaces of the medical device. The contact force may align and remove surface irregularities from the medical device prior to coating the medical device with coating. The coating may be resident on a second section of the applicator.

The present invention is directed to medical implants that are configured to controllably release therapeutic agent to a target site of a patient and methods of making these implants. Embodiments of the present invention may include a method comprising the steps of providing a tube having a wall with inner and outer surfaces and defining a passageway, forming an opening through the wall of the tube, applying a porous coating layer to at least one of the inner and outer surfaces of the tube, and loading a therapeutic agent solution into the passageway so that therapeutic agent passes through the opening and into the porous coating layer. The method may also include removing portions of the tube to form the implantable medical device, which may be a stent.

The present invention is directed to methods, processes, and systems for selectively coating portions of a workpiece as well as to workpieces that have themselves been coated in accord with the invention. Under methods and processes of the invention, a target surface of a workpiece may be positioned in contact with a roller to coat a target surface of the workpiece. In some embodiments, the roller may also be positioned in contact with a metering device during portions or all of the treating and coating process. The workpiece may be an implantable medical device and the coating may include therapeutic, the workpiece may be other devices as well.

System for reducing the damage to a coated medical implant during the expansion of the coated implant is provided. The system may include a coated medical implant, a multi-wing balloon catheter having at least four expandable wings, and an expandable membrane positioned between the balloon and the medical implant.
摘要:
A novel class of proteins, semaphorins, nucleic acids encoding semaphorins, semaphorin peptides, and methods of using semaphorins and semaphorin-encoding nucleic acids are disclosed. Semaphorin peptides and receptor agonists and antagonists provide potent modulators of nerve cell growth and regeneration. The invention provides pharmaceutical compositions, methods for screening chemical libraries for regulators of cell growth/differentiation; semaphorin gene-derived nucleic acids for use in genetic mapping, as probes for related genes, and as diagnostic reagents for genetic neurological disease; specific cellular and animal systems for the development of neurological disease therapy.
