An abrasive article, such as a structured abrasive article, can be treated by subjecting it to plasma whereby the outer surface can be eroded exposing at least a portion of the abrasive particles dispersed within a cross-linked binder forming the abrasive composites. Depending on the process conditions for the plasma treatment, it is possible to erode only a small portion or substantially all of the cross-linked binder from the outer surface. Thus, the initial cut-rate of the abrasive article can be controlled since it is possible to precisely control the degree, height, or area of the exposed abrasive particles.

The process includes forming a plasma from silicone oil, depositing an amorphous diamond-like film layer from the plasma, andcombining the amorphous diamond-like film layer with a moisture or oxygen sensitive electronic device to form a protected electronic device. The thin-film multilayer indicator is proximate sorbent media that can sorb a vapor of interest flowing from the gas inlet towards the gas outlet. The indicator includes a porous detection layer whose optical thickness changes in the presence of the vapor, located between a semireflective layer and a reflective layer permeable to the vapor. With equilibration at the applied vapor concentration between at least a portion of the media and the vapor, the vapor can pass through the reflective layer into the detection layer and change the detection layer optical thickness sufficiently to cause a visibly discernible change in the indicator appearance if viewed through the semireflective layer.

The first reactive functional group can be used to provide attachment to a surface of a substrate. The second reactive functional group is a N-sulfonylaminocarbonyl group that can be reacted with an amine-containing material, particularly a primary aliphatic amine, to form a carbonylimino-containing connector group. The invention also provides articles and methods for immobilizing amine-containing materials to a substrate.
