Polyisocyanate preparations containing latent tin catalysts are made from an organic polyisocyanate and a reaction product of a sulfonyl isocyanate and an organic tin catalyst in which at least one tin-oxygen bond is present. The organic tin catalyst preferably contains a tin-alkoxy, tin-siloxy, distannoxane and/or tin-carboxylate group. The reaction product of a sulfonyl isocyanate with a tin-carboxylate must generate carbon dioxide during its formation. The sulfonyl isocyanate and organic tin compound are used in quantities such that at least one isocyanato-sulfonyl group is present for each tin-oxygen bond. These polyisocyanate preparation are storage stable and may be used to produce adhesives, coatings and foams.

The present invention is directed to a new process for the preparation of mixed trimers by at least partly trimerizing the isocyanate groups of at least two organic isocyanates of a reactivity which differs in the sense of the trimerization reaction, in the presence of trimerization catalysts and optionally interrupting the trimerization reaction at the respectively desired degree of trimerization, in which process the less reactive isocyanate component is introduced, polymerization is then commenced in the presence of the catalyst with the trimerization of at least 0.1% of the isocyanate groups and the more reactive isocyanate component is finally metered into the reaction mixture thus obtained; the mixed trimers obtained according to this process; and the use of the mixed trimers having free isocyanate groups obtained by this process, optionally in a form blocked by blocking agents for organic polyisocyanates, as a starting material for the production of polyurethane plastics materials.

The present invention relates to polyisocyanate compositions containing reversibly blocked catalysts for the isocyanate addition reaction, characterized in that they contain(a) at least one organic polyisocyanate,(b) at least one addition product dissolved or dispersed in the polyisocyanate compositions, of a sulfonyl isocyanate with a tertiary amine and/or with a catalyst having a tin(II)- or tin(IV)-carboxylate structure as the reversibly blocked catalyst.The present invention also relates to a process for producing these polyisocyanate compositions and to the use of new polyisocyanate compositions as reactants for compounds containing isocyanate-reactive groups for the production of isocyanate addition products such as polyurethane plastics using a one-component or two-component principle. The present invention finally relates to the latent polyurethane catalysts prepared from a sulfonyl isocyanate and a tin(II)- or tin(IV)-carboxylate.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of oligomeric polyisocyanates by the dimerization or trimerization of a portion of the isocyanate groups in organic polyisocyanates in the presence of tertiary phosphines or in the presence of a peralkylated phosphorus acid triamides as catalyst, followed by termination of the dimerization and/or trimerization reaction at the required degree of oligomerization by the addition of a catalyst poison, characterized in that a sulfonyl isocyanate is used as the catalyst poison.The present invention also relates to the use of the oligomeric polyisocyanates obtained by this process, optionally in admixture with unreacted starting polyisocyanate or optionally blocked by blocking agents for isocyanate groups, as the polyisocyanate component in the production of polyurethane plastics.

The present invention is directed to isocyanato isocyanurates prepared from diisocyanates which contain a sterically unhindered isocyanate group bound to a primary aliphatic carbon atom and a sterically hindered isocyanate group which is bound to a tertiary carbon atom forming part of a cycloaliphatic ring system, said diisocyanate having an NCO content of about 20 to 50% by weight. A process for preparing a mixture of polyhydroxyl compounds having low molecular weight by catalytically hydrogenating a formose mixture with hydrogen on a metal catalyst. The hydrogenation is carried out at a pH of 7.5 to 12.5 and at elevated temperature and pressure. The formose mixture comprises (i) up to 70 wt. % formose, (ii) up to 1.6 wt. % lead ions and (iii) up to 5 wt. % calcium ions with at least one of (ii) or (iii) being present. The catalyst which is present in an amount of 4-240 wt. % (based on formose solution) is a compound taken from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt and compounds thereof. The mixture of polyhydroxyl compounds made in accordance with the present invention is useful as a starting material in the production of polyether polyols, polyester polyols and polyurethane plastics.
