摘要: A collapsible bone screw for healing bone fragments across a bone fracture includes an externally threaded inner screw member and an externally threaded outer screw member. The inner screw member is initially screwed into an inner bone portion. An unthreaded portion of the outer screw member is movably joined to the inner screw member. The outer screw member is screwed until it gains purchase in an outer bone portion. As impaction occurs over time, the collapsible bone screw apparatus may shorten in length as the two screw members slide, telescope or otherwise axially move toward each other to shorten the overall length, thereby preventing any portion of the screw apparatus from protruding out of the bone. A bone screw kit of multiple inner and outer screw members are provided as well as a method of surgically fastening bone fragments.

摘要: A tissue positioning device comprising a biocompatible member having a size and shape suitable for placement within a space adjacent to a tissue to be positioned and which acts to maintain the tissue in a desired position. The member may be a rigid or flexible spacer having a defined shape, or a bladder capable of receiving and being at least partially expanded by a filler material. The device can made from a variety of materials or a composite of materials as needed, and may include one or more attachment means by which it can be secured to nearby tissues such that it is maintained in a desired spatial location. The filler material can be any of a number of substances, including liquids, gases, a curable liquid such as bone cement or urethane foam, or a spring.

摘要: A method, system and apparatus for maintaining a controlled atmosphere having a high carbon dioxide content in a sealed container is provided. In the method, the container is substantially impermeable to oxygen and carbon dioxide and contains respiring horticultural produce. The method comprises monitoring the oxygen or carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere and, when the oxygen content approaches a level at which the produce becomes anaerobic, delivering a gas containing oxygen into the container such that the oxygen content in the atmosphere is again sufficient to allow the produce to respire. The high carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere causes the storage life of the produce to be extended.

摘要: A carburettor is connected into the inlet duct (48) of an internal combustion engine. The inlet duct is divided by a dividing wall (64) into a rich passage (42) and a lean passage (44). The carburettor includes a fuel chamber (4) and defines a flow duct divided by a planar partition (66) into a rich duct (30) and a lean duct (32) which communicate with the rich and lean passages, respectively. The partition (66) defines an aperture (40) in which a planar butterfly valve (20) is pivotably mounted. A number of fuel supply orifices (61, 62) communicate with the fuel chamber (4) and with the duct (30) at a position opposite to the aperture (40). The butterfly valve (20) is pivotable between an open position, in which the flow duct is substantially open and the aperture (40) is substantially closed and all of the fuel flowing out of the fuel supply orifices (61, 62) flows into the rich duct (30), and a closed position, in which the flow duct is substantially closed and the aperture (40) is substantially open and the fuel flowing out of the fuel supply orifices flows into to both the rich and lean ducts. An idle fuel supply orifice (8) is provided in the dividing wall (64) and communicates with the rich and lean passages (42, 44) and with the fuel chamber (4) and with the atmosphere. Under idling operation of the engine, an air/fuel mixture is induced into the rich and lean passages not only through one of the fuel supply orifices (61) but also through the idle fuel supply orifice (8).

摘要: This invention relates to methods for controlling and monitoring access to network servers. In particular, the process described in the invention includes client-server sessions over the Internet. In this environment, when the user attempts to access an access-controlled file, the server subjects the request to a secondary server which determines whether the client has an authorization or valid account. Upon such verification, the user is provided with a session identification which allows the user to access to the requested file as well as any other files within the present protection domain.

摘要: In a telecommunications network, a route object (RO) computer program product, creates a RO which presents a user with editable fields relating to more than one type of RO, and allows the user to specify the contents of one or more of the fields to create any one of the types of RO. The editable fields may relate to a protocol used by the RO, or a type of route defined by a RO, or at least one network element (NE) of a route defined by the RO, or at least one hop of the RO. The RO computer program product may interface with the user, for example a GUI which presents one or more windows to the user to allow the user to create a RO. For example, a NE listing window may be presented to the user, which comprises a NE context menu having a create RO menu item which brings up a window comprising a RO creation dialog box, which comprises one or more editable fields relating to more than one type of RO and the user specifies the contents of one or more of the fields to create any one of the types of RO.
