    摘要: An improved cam operated, open nozzle, unit injector is disclosed including an injector body formed by a barrel, spring housing, and nozzle and containing a central bore for receiving a variable length plunger assembly mounted for reciprocal movement within the injector body wherein the variable length plunger is formed by an outer plunger and inner plunger combined with a timing plunger, mounted between the inner and outer plungers to form a collapsible timing chamber into which a variable quantity of fuel may be metered and expelled on a cycle by cycle basis to provide a variable effective length to the plunger assembly to cause controlled variation in injection timing based on variation in the timing fluid supplied to the injector and wherein the timing plunger is provided with a radial flange for engaging a stop formed in the injector barrel to hold the timing plunger in a predetermined precise location during metering of timing fluid into the collapsible timing chamber and to render the injector timing insensitive to unpredictable pressure variations. The disclosed injector may include a damping chamber for receiving the radial flange of the plunger to eliminate damaging engagement between the timing plunger and the injector barrel. Improved fuel flow passages, check valves and an improved coupling between the outer plunger and the injector's outer return spring are provided along with means for easily changing the rated injection quantity of the disclosed injector.

    摘要: A clamping load distributor and top stop disposed and connecting between a fuel injector body and a clamping device. The clamping load distributor functions as an intermediary to transmit the static clamping load from the clamping device to the fuel injector body. The clamping load distributor includes a cylindrically shaped main body having a bore extending therethrough that is disposed adjacent a coupling return spring. A cap is connected to the cylindrically shaped main body and functions as a top stop for limiting the outward axial movement of a mechanical linkage. The restriction on axial movement creates a small gap between the moving mechanical parts to allow a coating of lubrication to be obtained. The main body having a pair of clamp receiving portions formed therein for receiving a clamping load. An annular ring is formed on the bottom side of clamping load distributor radially inward from the clamp receiving portions for contacting the upper deck of the fuel injector body. The geometric relationship of the clamping load distributor functions to transfer the static clamping load radially inward towards the fuel injector units center of mass. The transferring of the clamping load radially inward results in a significant decrease in the occurrence of timing plunger seizure within the fuel injector unit.

    摘要: A three-way fuel injection control valve assembly is provided which includes a pilot valve for controlling the movement of a drain valve member and a separate supply valve member to minimize valve response time and transition flow losses. The solenoid operated two-way pilot valve controls the flow of fuel from a control volume formed adjacent the ends of the drain valve member and the supply valve member to begin and end an injection event. A transition flow loss limiting feature is provided which causes the drain valve member to close prior to the opening of the supply valve member and subsequently causes the supply valve member to close prior to the opening of the drain valve member during a given injection event thereby minimizing transition flow losses. The transition flow loss limiting feature includes sizing the cross sectional areas of the supply valve member and the drain valve member, sizing a bias plunger for biasing the drain valve member and sizing one or more bias springs so that no opening overlap occurs between the supply valve member and the drain valve member.

    摘要: A pump-line-nozzle fuel injection system in which a supply pump is coupled to a high pressure pump having a plurality of pumping cylinders, each of which has a cam-driven timing plunger and a floating metering plunger. During the retraction stroke, flow to a timing chamber formed between the pistons is blocked by a solenoid valve while the fuel passes into a metering chamber, at the discharge side of the pump, which is closed relative to the high pressure delivery line by a delivery valve. Once the proper quantity of fuel has been metered, the solenoid valve opens allowing fuel to flow into the metering chamber, balancing the pressure on opposite sides of the metering piston, so as to prevent the metering plunger from retracting further as the timing plunger continues to retract. During the compression stroke, at the appropriate time for commencement of injection, the solenoid valve recloses creating a hydraulic link between the metering and timing plungers, so that the fuel is pressurized. Once the fuel is sufficiently pressurized, the delivery valve opens and the fuel is delivered to the injector via the high pressure delivery line. Each pumping cylinder delivers fuel to a respective associated injector for each cylinder of the engine. Compressibility of the fuel and the length of the high pressure delivery line is compensated for by an electronic control module and by making the timing plunger of a larger diameter than the metering plunger so as to obtain a fast pumping rate.

    摘要: This disclosure relates to a unit-type fuel injector for an internal combustion engine such as a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine. The injector includes an injector body forming a plunger bore, and a plunger that reciprocates in the bore. A fuel supply passage and a drain passage are formed in the body, and a fuel injection chamber is formed at the lower end of the plunger bore. A feed hole connects the chamber with the supply passage, and a scavenge passage connects the supply and drain passages. During a retracted plunger, or fuel metering, portion of the injector cycle, the plunger opens the feed hole and closes the scavenge passage, and during a down plunger, or scavenging, portion of the injector cycle, the plunger closes the feed hole and opens the scavenge passage. An annular groove is formed between injector parts and surrounds the chamber, and the groove collects leakage. A restricted bleed hole connects the groove with the low pressure drain and removes the leakage. The feed hole is at an end of the supply passage, and the incoming fuel flows in a direct path through the supply passage and feed hole to the injection chamber.
