The present invention describes polymer comprising one or more C3 to C40 olefins and having a Mw of 100,000 or less and a Dot T-Peel of 1 Newton or more. The polymer may have a branching index (g′) of 0.95 or less measured at the Mz of the polymer, and a heat of fusion of 1 to 70 J/g. Also described are polymers of homopolypropylene or a copolymer of propylene and up to 5 mole % ethylene having: an isotactic run length of 1 to 30 as determined by Carbon 13 NMR and a percent of r dyad of greater than 20%, preferably from 20 to 70% as determined by Carbon 13 NMR. Also described are methods of making these and other polymers.

The invention encompasses a mixed transition metal olefin polymerization catalyst system suitable for the polymerization of olefin monomers comprising one late transition metal catalyst system and at least one different catalyst system selected from the group consisting of late transition metal catalyst systems, transition metal metallocene catalyst systems or Ziegler-Natta catalyst systems. Preferred embodiments include at least one late transition metal catalyst system comprising a Group 9, 10, or 11 metal complex stabilized by a bidentate ligand structure and at least one transition metal metallocene catalyst system comprising a Group 4 metal complex stabilized by at least one ancillary cyclopentadienyl ligand. The polymerization process for olefin monomers comprises contacting one or more olefins with these catalyst systems under polymerization conditions.

Substantially random ethylene copolymers containing at least 3.0 mole percent of geminally disubstituted olefin monomers are described. The geminally disubstituted olefin monomers can be represented by the generic formula R.sub.1 =R.sub.2 (R.sub.3)(R.sub.4), where R.sub.1 is CH.sub.2, R.sub.2 is C, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are, independently, essentially linear hydrocarbyl groups having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, or more, and containing one carbon atom bound directly to R.sub.2. The copolymers can be prepared by coordination polymerization by means of contacting at least one geminally disubstituted olefin monomer and ethylene, optionally with one or more other coordination polymerizable monomers, with a catalyst system comprising a monocyclopentadienyl, heteroatom-containing Group 4 transition metal catalyst component.

This invention relates to a series of novel late transition metal catalysts for olefin oligomerization, the catalysts demonstrating high activity and selectivity for linear α-olefins. The catalysts contain a Group-8, -9, or -10 transition metal, M, excluding palladium; an ancillary ligand comprising: a terminal amine comprising two independently selected hydrocarbyl radicals, R1 and R2; a terminal phosphine comprising two independently selected hydrocarbyl radicals, R3 and R4; and a hydrocarbyl bridge, Y, comprising a backbone wherein the hydrocarbyl bridge connects between the terminal amine and the terminal phosphine and wherein the backbone comprises a chain that is four or more carbon atoms long; and an abstractable ligand, X.
