The ON/OFF control signal 105 is also output to a data signal converting means 104, and the data signal converting means 104 converts a data signal 102 into a data signal 103 in synchronization with the switching of ON and OFF of the light source 115 so as to prevent positive-negative inversion of the display on a liquid crystal panel 114. A data signal potential supplying means 112 supplies a potential of a data signal based on the data signal 103 to a data signal line 113 so as to drive the liquid crystal panel 114.

    摘要: To simplify a manufacturing process of a transverse electric field mode liquid crystal display device by using a non-linear resistance element such as a TFD (Thin Film Diode) as a switching element. In a liquid crystal display device having a pair of substrates with liquid crystal interposed therebetween, one of the substrates consists of an electrode substrate. On the electrode substrate, there are provided a first group of electrodes, a second group of electrodes crossing the first group of electrodes with an insulating layer interposed therebetween, non-linear resistance elements, one end of each of the non-linear resistance elements being connected to the respective one of the second group of electrodes, and pixel electrodes opposing the first group of electrodes, each pixel electrode being connected to the other end of each of the non-linear resistance elements. Since the non-linear resistance elements have a so-called TFD (MIM) structure made of metal-insulating layer-metal, the manufacturing process is simple. Therefore, it is possible to manufacture the transverse electric field mode display device at low cost.

    摘要: The invention reduces power consumption when, for example, a mobile personal computer is in a power-saving mode or when a cellular phone is in a wait mode, in an electro-optical apparatus, such as a liquid crystal display of the subfield drive type used as a display apparatus for various apparatuses. Three different settings “64”, “16” and “2” are enabled as the number of gray scale levels in an electro-optical apparatus, the number of subfields becoming smaller as the number of gray scale levels is reduced. When a large number of gray scale levels is not required (when in the power-saving mode, the wait mode, etc.), a low number of gray scale levels is set, so that the own capacitance of a liquid crystal layer and storage capacitance are charged and discharged less often.
