摘要: A by-pass control sleeve has circumferential protrusions along its outer surface. The protrusions of the by-pass control sleeve may be distributed along the length of the sleeve with constant diameter sections of the sleeve therebetween. The protrusions may be asymmetrical and/or may have a steep and/or concave curved forward face. A method of making a by-pass control sleeve comprises molding the protrusions on an outer surface of the sleeve. A method of installing the by-pass control sleeve comprises sliding the sleeve onto an end of a spiral wound membrane element. A combination of the by-pass control sleeve fixed to the spiral wound membrane element may be installed in a pressure housing.

摘要: A full-effect reverse osmosis membrane element includes a central tube and a reverse osmosis membrane assembly wound around the central tube. The reverse osmosis membrane assembly includes a pair of reverse osmosis membranes attached at front surfaces thereof and wound around the central tube. A water feed channel has a water inlet formed at front edges of the reverse osmosis membranes and a water outlet formed at rear edges of the reverse osmosis membranes. A water division structure is arranged in the water feed channel, and includes a first water division band forming a preset space with the central tube when the reverse osmosis membranes are in an unfolded state. The first water division band divides the water feed channel into a first flow channel having a gradually decreasing cross-section and a second flow channel in communication with the first flow channel.

摘要: Hollow fibre membrane modules (1) with a shell-side configuration often comprise a hollow fibre bundle (2) and a perforated hollow internal core (4) inside the bundle. A plug (5) in the core and a baffle (15) in the bundle are typically employed in order to desirably distribute supplied fluid over the bundle for separation purposes. The fluid flow distribution can be improved by incorporating suitable flow distributors (20, 21) within the internal core itself. Such modules are particularly useful for osmotic membrane distillation.

摘要: A hemodiafiltration system for treating blood which has module having a housing in which hollow-fiber membranes are arranged in the direction of the longitudinal extent and are embedded at their ends in first and second sealing compounds joined to the inner wall of the housing in a fluid-tight manner. The membrane module also has a dialyzate space and a substituate space separated from the dialyzate space in a fluid-tight manner by a continuous dividing wall. The membrane module further includes means for delivering and withdrawing a dialyzate to and from the dialyzate space, and means for delivering a substituate to the substituate space. The hollow-fiber membranes are used for blood treatment, filtration of the substituate, and delivery of the substituate to the blood. An exterior space is formed around the hollow-fiber membranes that is delimited by the inner wall of the housing and sealing compounds and is divided along the longitudinal extent of the housing by a dividing wall into the substituate space and the dialyzate space, the dividing wall encloses each individual hollow-fiber membrane.

摘要: Dialyzers and methods are disclosed for performing shortened extracorporeal blood treatments. A flow restriction is provided in a dialyzer serving to partially impede flow of dialysate through the dialysate compartment of the dialyzer. As a result, the pressure of the dialysate upstream of the flow restriction is sufficient to cause the pressure profile of the dialysate from the dialysate inlet to the dialysate outlet of the dialyzer to be non-linear, in contrast to prior-art dialyzers. This perturbation of the dialysate pressure profile permits a single dialyzer to be used to remove large amounts of blood water from a patient's blood and re-infuse large amounts of liquid to the blood while still attaining a desired net ultrafiltration of the patient without the need for more than one dialyzer per treatment or for a separate replacement fluid.

摘要: Described is a gas exchanger with a restriction element or elements to reduce gas exchange as desired to avoid hypo-capnia and hyper-oxygenation in small patients. The gas exchanger includes a gas exchanger housing with an outer wall and a core which defines an inner wall and having a blood inlet for receiving a blood supply and a blood outlet. The gas exchanger also includes: a hollow fiber bundle disposed within the housing between the core and the outer wall; and a gas inlet compartment for receiving an oxygen supply and directing the oxygen supply to first ends of the hollow fiber bundle, wherein the gas inlet compartment includes at least one restriction element configured to allow the oxygen supply to reach only a portion of the hollow fiber bundle.
