An outlet of the pump is in fluid communication with an inlet of a dispenser and an outlet of the dispenser is effective for dispensing the molten thermoplastic material therethrough.

Systems and methods are disclosed for an automatic and continuous supply of coating material to a coating applicator in optical fiber fabrication. The present invention switches from one coating reservoir to another by way of a transitional period in which both coating reservoirs are supplying coating material to the coating applicator. For example, while an in-use reservoir is supplying the coating material to the coating applicator, a standby reservoir is being filled, settled to off gas air bubbles and then slowly pressurized. A sized orifice is used to slowly bleed off pressure from the in-use reservoir at a rate that does not allow the pressure in the in-use reservoir from falling out of a desired pressure range. When the in-use reservoir is substantially emptied of coating material and the pressures in both reservoirs are substantially equalized, then both reservoirs simultaneously supply coating material to the coating applicator for a period of time before switching completely over to the standby reservoir.

On the basis of this output signal, it is discriminated whether the amount of the solution in the middle tank is not less than the lower limit value or not. Then, if it is detected that the amount of the solution in the middle tank is less than the lower limit value, the predetermined processing in association with the switching of the pressure tank is carried out.

A method and device are disclosed for monitoring lacquer consumption per can in a lacquer application unit. The device includes a counter providing can number data on the number of cans being applied with lacquer in the application unit; a tank for intermediate storage of lacquer; a lacquer feeder for feeding lacquer from a lacquer reservoir to the tank through an inlet pipe; and a lacquer feeder for feeding lacquer from the tank to the application unit. A valve is provided in the inlet pipe for intermittent movement between a closed position and an open position, in which lacquer is admitted into the tank. A flow meter is arranged to provide flow rate data on the amount of lacquer flowing into the tank. The device also includes a processor that, based on the flow rate data and the can number data, over a time period between two subsequent movements of the valve to one and only one of the positions, effects a calculation of the total amount of lacquer passing the flow meter during the time period and the total number of lacquer coated cans during the time period, to subsequently, by dividing the total amount by the total number, calculate a lacquer consumption value per can.

The invention relates to a method of applying a multi-component glue mixture to objects passing through an applicator station for the application of said glue mixture in a manufacturing line. Waste glue mixture is produced during the application of said glue. The method comprises mixing glue components in a mixer to form said glue mixture. The waste glue mixture is collected in a tank, where it is mixed with a fresh glue component to form a mixture. The mixture of waste glue mixture and fresh component is returned to said mixer. A multi-component glue applicator machine (3) according to the invention comprises storage tanks (4, 6) for glue component, day tanks (17, 18) for said glue components, and mixing apparatus (38, 40, 42) for mixing glue components from said day tanks (17, 18) to form a glue mixture thereof. There is provided a glue applicator device (44). One of said day tanks (17) is provided beneath the glue applicator (44).
