Abstract:
The present invention relates to novel antibacterial compounds referred to herein generally as a thermal isomer of difficidin and thermal isomer of oxydifficidin. Also disclosed is process for preparing, isolating and purifying said compounds.
Abstract:
Process for the preparation of difficidin and derivative antibacterial compounds of the formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.a and R.sub.b are members independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkali metal and alkaline earth metal cations; ammonium; and substituted ammonium; and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or hydroxy.
Abstract:
A method for the synthesis of derivatives of deoxyzoapatanol is described. The derivatives are effective as post-implantive contragestational agents.
Abstract:
Compounds of formula (I): ##STR1## [wherein: m is 1-3; A and B are oxygen or sulfur; and one of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is C.sub.10 -C.sub.22 alkyl and the other is a group of formula (II). ##STR2## where: n is 2 or 3; and --NR.sup.3 R.sup.4 R.sup.5 is an amino group] and salts thereof are effective anti-cancer agents.

Abstract:
Method and compounds are provided for use in the synthesis of steroids wherein a polyolefin is provided having an initiating group having a chalcogen atom in juxtaposition to a double bond, so as to be capable of bond formation to close to form a ring and having a terminating group involving pi unsaturation (a double or triple bond) conjugated to an aromatic ring. Upon acid catalysis, sigma bonds are formed through the interaction of a carbocation formed at the carbon atom bonded to the chalcogen atom and the double bond intermediate the initiating group and the terminating group, which close to form rings of a steroid nucleus, the carbocation interacting with the pi unsaturation conjugated with the aromatic group and being captured by a nucleophile present in the acidic reaction medium. The resulting steroid product may then be modified in known ways to produce known steroids.
Abstract:
A process for forming a flame retardant polymer, as well as the flame retardant polymer, are disclosed. A flame retardant polymer is a polymer that can be resistant to thermal degradation and/or thermal oxidation. A flame retardant polymer can be mixed or otherwise incorporated into a standard polymer to give flame retardancy to the standard polymer. The flame retardant polymers can include polycaprolactone functionalized with flame retardant substituents. The flame retardant substituents can include halides, substituted phosphoryl, and substituted phosphonyl.
Abstract:
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## are disclosed. These compounds inhibit the angiotensinogen-cleaving action of the natural proteolytic enzyme, renin, are useful in treating, preventing or managing renin-associated hypertension, hyperaldosteronism, congestive heart failure, and glaucoma.
Abstract:
The subject disclosure discloses a chemical intermediate in antibiotic synthesis of the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is H or OH and the asterisks indicate asymmetric carbon atoms. Compounds of this type may be obtained by fermentation with a strain of B. subtilis under aerobic conditions. Compounds of the above structure are biologically inactive but are converted by phosphorylation of the hydroxyl group to produce compounds of the structure: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 is H or OH, which are useful antibacterial substances having a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity.
Abstract:
Difficidin and derivative antibacterial compounds of the formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.a and R.sub.b are members independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkali metal and alkaline earth metal cations; ammonium; and substituted ammonium; and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or hydroxy.
