Abstract:
Siloxane-modified polyester resins are disclosed. These resins comprise a copolymer of a siloxane compound, which contains at least one active hydrogen atom, and a lactone compound. The copolymer is substantially free of unreacted siloxane compound. The siloxane-modified polyester resins are useful for the production of heat-sensitive recording material, magnetic recording media and release agents. Processes for the production of the siloxane-modified polyester resins are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed in which polyalkoxy amino silane adhesion promoters are incorporated into isocyanate-functional polyurethane resins formed by the reaction of a stoichiometric excess of organic polyisocyanate with an hydroxy-functional resin without producing cloudy and/or unstable resin solutions. In this process, the hydroxy-functional resin is prereacted with the alkoxy functionality of the amino silane in a reaction which liberates alcohol, and then a stoichiometric excess of the organic polyisocyanate is added to cause the isocyanate groups of the polyisocyanate to react with both the hydroxy groups and the amino hydrogen atoms present.
Abstract:
A formulation and process of preparing a functionalized-urethane alkyd resin, and a siliconized-urethane alkyd resin, is obtained from an alkyd based on semi drying/drying oils, or their fatty acids, having high iodine number of 120-170 (gm I2/100 gm), followed by grafting of epoxy-alkyl-alkoxy silane or silanol-functional silicone resin into an alkyd backbone. There is also subsequent urethanization of the organosilane grafted alkyd. Siliconized-urethane alkyd thus obtained were incorporated in solvent-borne pigmented-coating compositions and found suitable for preparing air drying 1 pack coatings providing excellent corrosion resistance, weathering and mechanical properties when applied on variety of substrates such as mild steel, corroded mild steel, other metals, alloys, glass, wood and cementitious materials
Abstract:
A polyester polyol comprising at least one esterified unit of formula (I) wherein L is a difunctional aliphatic group having from two to six carbon atoms and R is a C1-C4 alkyl group.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to substrates coated with a transparent or translucent film-forming composition, prepared from a curable, two-package composition comprising a first and second reactive package. The first reactive package contains a polyamine component comprising: i) a polyether functional polyamine; ii) an aspartic ester functional polyamine; and iii) an aliphatic polyamine. The second reactive package comprises a polyisocyanate, and the curable composition, under ambient conditions, upon mixing of the reactive packages, demonstrates a gel time of at least 2500 seconds.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to low VOC curable coating compositions suitable for use in various mar and etch resistant coatings, such as in automotive coatings. The binder of the composition includes silicon/hydroxyl and cross-linking components. The silicon/hydroxyl component includes one or more reactive oligomers having linear or branched cycloaliphatic moiety and at least two functional groups with at least one being a silane or silicate group, the remaining being a hydroxyl group. Applicants have unexpectedly discovered that by including silane or silicate functionalities in these reactive oligomers, the solids level of the composition can be significantly increased at reduced composition viscosities. As a result, such high solids low VOC compositions can be readily applied by conventional application means, such as by spraying.
Abstract:
Hydroxy functional polysiloxane graft copolymers are provided. The copolymer is crosslinkable by hydroxy-reactive crosslinking agent and, in particular, is suitable for use in thermosetting coating compositions adapted to form a flexible cured coating over a variety of substrates, such as metal and plastic. The copolymer has a number average molecular weight between about 1000 and about 15,000, has a hydroxyl number between about 30 and about 300, and is the reaction product of carbon-carbon double bond-reactive monoethylenically unsaturated monomer with hydroxy functional carbon-carbon double bond-bearing branched polysiloxane macromer. The macromer is the reaction product of (i) epoxy monomer having the formula: ##STR1## with (ii) hydroxy functional polysiloxane reactant containing 0-10 urethane linkages per molecule.
