    摘要: Ultraviolet curing oligomers and liquid coating compositions based thereon are disclosed which cure with ultraviolet light in the presence of a photoinitiator. The coating compositions can provide either a single coating for optical glass fiber which resists microbending difficulties down to around -40.degree. C., or a topcoat for overcoating softer buffer coatings which resist microbending down to around -60.degree. C. The coating compositions consist essentially of the linear polyacrylate-terminated polyurethane polyurea oligomer in admixture with an ultraviolet curable liquid acrylate or polyacrylate to provide the liquidity needed for application and to adjust the hardness or softness of the cured coating for the selected single coat or topcoat utility. The oligomer contains a linear polyurethane core terminated by urea formation with a polyhydroxy-functional amine containing a single isocyanate-reactive amino hydrogen atom. The plurality of hydroxy-terminated branches provided by the amine are capped with an acrylate-functional compound, and the several acrylate-functional branches increase the toughness and the cure speed.

    摘要: A modified polyepoxide is disclosed which cures with an amine-functional curing agent at room temperature to form coatings having better flexibility and resistance to Skydrol hydraulic fluid. This modified polyepoxide is the reaction product of a diurethane diisocyanate with a resinous polyepoxide having a molecular weight of from about 500 to about 1000 and a 1,2-epoxy equivalency of from about 1.5 to about 2.0. The diurethane diisocyanate is reacted with the resinous polyepoxide in an amount of from about 1.5 moles to about 16 moles per 100 moles of the polyepoxide. The diurethane diisocyanate is itself the reaction product of a dicarbinol-terminated polydimethyl polysiloxane having a molecular weight of from about 1000 to about 4000 with substantially a 2:1 stoichiometric excess of an organic diisocyanate.

    摘要: Provided is a radiation curable coating composition suitable for coating optical glass fiber, having a viscosity in the range of about 10 mPas to 10,000 mPas made of about 20 to about 99.9 weight % of at least one of a thermoplastic non-crosslinking polymer and an ethylenically-unsaturated oligomeric compound; optionally, from 0 to about 60 weight % of an ethylenically-unsaturated diluent, optionally, from 0 to about 60 weight % of a multifunctional ethylenically-unsaturated compound, and optionally, from 0 to about 10 weight % of a photoinitiator, provided that if the thermoplastic non-crosslinking polymer is present and no ethylenically-unsaturated oligomeric compound is present, then the ethylenically-unsaturated diluent is present in an amount up to about 60 weight % and the multifunctional ethylenically-unsaturated compound is present in an amount up to about 60 weight %. The composition provides a tack-free handeable fiber after radiation cure and is fugitive upon thermolysis. Also provided is an optical fiber coated with the coating composition.

    摘要: A photocurable ethylenically unsaturated liquid coating composition consisting essentially of: 1- polyethylenically unsaturated material in which the ethylenically unsaturated groups are polymerizable groups which are not (meth)acrylate groups; 2- a polyamine resin; and 3- an hydroxyalkyl phenone photoinitiator to speed the cure. The photocure rate is also speeded by combining a tertiary amine-functional acrylic copolymer, an allyl-functional resin, and a maleate-functional resin in a weight ratio of about 15-65/5-45/30-70. In preferred practice both expedients are used to maximize the cure speed.

    摘要: There is disclosed linear polymers and copolymers of polymerized monoethylenically unsaturated monomers having a weight average molecular weight from about 1,500 to about 15,000, with most of the polymer ends being terminated with hydroxyl groups, one at each end of the polymer molecule. These polymers have an average of from about 1.6 to 5 hydroxyl groups per polymer molecule. Thermosetting coating compositions containing these polymers are also disclosed. The monomers which are polymerized may include a small proportion of hydroxy-functional monomers, but desirably consist of monoethylenically unsaturated monomers lacking hydroxyl functionality. The polymers are produced by polymerizing the monoethylenically unsaturated monomers in organic solvent solution medium containing a free radical initiator and a proportion of a chain-terminating agent which is a bis hydroxyorganic xanthogen disulfide in which the organic group is preferably an alkylene group contains from 2-18 carbon atoms to provide the desired molecular weight. The polymers are preferably liquid to slowly flowable at room temperature in the absence of organic solvent.

    摘要: A process is disclosed in which polyalkoxy amino silane adhesion promoters are incorporated into isocyanate-functional polyurethane resins formed by the reaction of a stoichiometric excess of organic polyisocyanate with an hydroxy-functional resin without producing cloudy and/or unstable resin solutions. In this process, the hydroxy-functional resin is prereacted with the alkoxy functionality of the amino silane in a reaction which liberates alcohol, and then a stoichiometric excess of the organic polyisocyanate is added to cause the isocyanate groups of the polyisocyanate to react with both the hydroxy groups and the amino hydrogen atoms present.
