A method for regulating the physical properties of slide bearings during operation. The method controls the bearing modulus (Hersey number)s of a slide bearing and includes the steps of: (a) determining the temperature dependence of the dynamic viscosity of the bearing lubricant; (b) determining the mixed-film lubrication to hydrodynamic lubrication transition temperature of the bearing; (c) determining, on the basis of the temperature dependence of the dynamic viscosity of the lubricant, the temperature dependence of the bearing modulus λ(T) and the value of the bearing modulus λcr of the mixed-film lubrication to hydrodynamic lubrication transition of the bearing; (d) measuring the operating temperature of the bearing; (e) regulating the value of the operating temperature of the bearing in order to keep the operating value of the bearing modulus Aperf close to Aer in a range corresponding to the transition between mixed-film lubrication and hydrodynamic lubrication. The technical result is that of broadening the functionality of a slide bearing and improving the operating reliability thereof.

A plastic part is molded of a plastic with an inner body of crystalline plastic and an outer surface layer of an amorphous plastic. The amorphous surface layer withstands friction loading at least during an initial break-in period. In one embodiment, the amorphous surface is formed by using a higher plastic melt temperature and/or a lower mold temperature than normal. In another embodiment, an intermediate part is molded as a crystalline intermediate part, and a surface layer is heated and quenched to form the amorphous surface layer on the final part. A bearing cage is molded by injecting the plastic melt at a single point intermediate the ends of a single bar of the bearing cage to permit formation of the desired amorphous layer on rails connected to the ends of the bars.

Bearing materials comprise polytetrafluoroethylene uniformly distributed throughout and firmly incorporated in a cured epoxy resin matrix. The compositions may also comprise fillers and reinforcing agents, e.g. graphite, molybdenum disulphide, asbestos and metal powders. The polytetrafluoroethylene may be in powder or granular form, or may be converted to a fibrous form by compacting and shearing forces either before or during admixture with the uncured epoxy resin. Mixing may be effected in the presence of a lubricant, e.g. a hydrocarbon, which is subsequently removed. The compositions may be used as unsupported bearings or may be applied by coating or laminating to backings, e.g. of metal, plastic or reinforced plastic, flexible fabric, rubber or synthetic rubber, to give backed bearings. Examples describe compositions comprising polytetrafluoroethylene, epoxy resins and curing agents therefor together with (2. (4), (14), (17) and (18) graphite, (5), (7), (8) and (15) molybdenum disulphide, (6) molybdenum disulphide and asbestos, (10) lead powder, (11) lead coated copper powder, (12) bronze powder, (13) molybdenum disulphide, asbestos and lead powder, (19) graphite and lead powder and (20) molybdenum disulphide and lead powder. In Example (21) the epoxy resin is mixed with a liquid urethane polymer containing isocyanate groups.ALSO:Backed bearings may be made by applying to substrates particulate compositions comprising polytetrafluoroethylene and an epoxy resin and curing the compositions under pressure at elevated temperatures. A sliding member of the present invention includes a base material and a coating layer that is formed on the base material. The coating layer includes a particle aggregate, and the particle aggregate contains two or more kinds of precipitation hardened copper alloy particles that have different compositions. The sliding member has high coating strength and superior wear resistance.
