Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of controlling movements of a positioner of a micro-scanner, the method comprising: determining the vibration resonance frequency ranges of the positioner, and performing a main scan by a controlled movement of the positioner.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, an information recording and reproducing device includes a first layer, a second layer and a recording layer. The recording layer is provided between the first layer and the second layer and being capable of reversibly changing between a first state having a first resistance and a second state having a second resistance higher than the first resistance. The recording layer includes a first compound layer and a second compound layer. The first compound layer contains a first compound. The first compound includes a first cation element and a second cation element of a type different from the first cation element. The second compound layer contains a second compound. The second compound includes a transition element having a d-orbital partially filled with electron, and the second compound includes a void site capable of storing at least one of the first cation element and the second cation element.
Abstract:
A recording and reproducing apparatus supports a recording medium swingably in at least two axis directions by a support section formed in a shape having elasticity. When an access can be made to a memory, the recording medium is constantly and reciprocatingly moved in a direction along data row. Thus, a positional relationship with a probe head is always grasped. When an access is made, a moving time associated with position identification is reduced, and precise and fast movement is achieved.
Abstract:
A data storage medium stories data in the form of marks, said marks being written and/or read by an array of probes. The storage medium further includes a plurality of data fields, each field including an area of the storage medium which, in use, is scanned for reading and/or writing by an associated one of the array of probes. The data fields include operational data fields having operational data for operating said scanning stored herein, wherein the operational data fields are arranged in a plurality of clusters, each cluster including a plurality of adjacent operational data fields. The invention also provides a method of scanning the data storage medium with the probe array, in which a target data field is determined and an operational data cluster closest to the target data field is selected and the operational data stored therein is used to control parameters of the scanning.
Abstract:
An information recording/reproducing device according to an aspect of the present invention includes a recording layer, and a recording circuit which records data to the recording layer by generating a phase change in the recording layer. The recording layer includes a first chemical compound having one of a Wolframite structure and a Scheelite structure.
Abstract:
An apparatus comprises a storage medium, a head substrate, wherein the storage medium and the head substrate are separated by a gap, a plurality of electrodes separated from each other, and a support structure positioned in the gap for supporting some of the electrodes. An apparatus comprising a storage medium, a head substrate, wherein the storage medium and the head substrate are separated by a gap, a plurality of posts positioned in the gap, a layer of low friction material positioned on one end of each of the posts, is also described.
Abstract:
A position control area (76A) is partly formed in the recording area (75) of a recording medium (70) and position information is recorded only in the position control area (76A). To record data in the recording medium (70) by a head (60) having a plurality of cantilevers (62A), (62B), . . . , the position information is read by the cantilever (62E) corresponding to the position control area (76A) and, based on the position information, the positioning control or moving control of all the other cantilevers is performed.
Abstract:
A recording disk has a surface provided with guide grooves for controlling the position of a recording head, and recording bits formed in the guide grooves for high-density recording. The recording bits have the shape of a tadpole in a plane. The width Ws of the recording bits is greater than the width Wg of the guide grooves. An AFM probe serving as a recording head travels along the guide grooves without running off the guide grooves. When a tip part of the AFM probe coincides with the recording bit, the tip part drops deep into the guide groove, whereby the recording bit is detected.
Abstract:
An information recording/reproducing method and apparatus is for carrying out at least one of recording and reproducing information through a probe electrode or through a plurality of probe electrodes on an information recording medium. A probe electrode is disposed on an elastic member. A relative position is so adjusted between the recording medium and the probe electrode that a repulsive force between them is comparative to an elastic force of the elastic member. In case of plural probe electrodes, they are displaced to keep an equal spacing between the recording medium and the respective probe electrodes so that they may have either a zero average or a minimized square sum of displacement. A spacer layer will do for setting a spacing between a probe electrode and the recording medium.
Abstract:
Disclosed are medium and methods for storage and reading of stored information. The storage medium comprises an oxide layer having a plurality of pits and projections on the oxide layer surface. Information storage is achieved by applying voltage or light, in accordance to information signals, to the oxide layer, to differentially heat said oxide layer and create a plurality of portions which contain different quantities of oxygen. Stored information is read by the application of voltage or light to the oxide layer containing a plurality of portions containing different quantity of oxygen and detection of the electrical resistance or light reflectivity of each of said plurality of portions.
