Abstract:
A laser source that generates an optical frequency comb, comprising a pumped laser medium placed inside an optical cavity that incorporates at least one optically-controlled modulator, a detector generating an error signal, and a modulation optical source that is controlled by the error signal and whose radiation is directed onto said optically-controlled modulator thereby stabilizing the Carrier-Envelope Offset (CEO) frequency and/or the CEO phase and/or the repetition rate of said source.
Abstract:
A laser gain element including an undoped layer of a monoclinic double tungstate (MDT) crystal, and a method of forming a laser gain element are provided. The laser gain element includes a layer of doped MDT crystal adjacent to the undoped layer, the doped MDT layer including a pre-selected concentration of rare earth ions. The layer of doped MDT crystal has an absorption peak at a first wavelength and an emission peak at a second wavelength longer than the first wavelength; and the layer of doped MDT crystal has a fluorescence emission with a weighted average at a third wavelength shorter than the first wavelength. A laser resonator cavity formed with a plurality of composite gain elements as above is also provided.

An adaptive laser system for ophthalmic use is provided. In another aspect, a relatively inexpensive laser is employed. In another aspect of the present system, non-linear optical imaging uses multiphoton fluorescences and/or second harmonic generation, to create three-dimensional mapping of a portion of the eye in combination with automated feedback to assist with a surgical operation. In a further aspect of the present system, the patient interface uses laser induced markings or indicia to aid in focusing and/or calibration. Still another aspect employs temporal focusing of the laser beam pulse.

Laser master oscillator-power amplifier system for generating high pulse energy, high average power laser pulses in the ultraviolet 191.25-201.25 nm and 243-246.25 nm spectral ranges, and in the visible 450-537.5 nm spectral range with controllable pulse duration and pulse repetition rate employ a master oscillator seed laser operating in the infra-red spectral range, and a single series connected chain of hybrid fiber-bulk optical amplifiers coupled to a non-linear frequency conversion unit to convert the laser pulses to the ultraviolet and visible spectral ranges.

An ultra-short pulse laser system comprising an amplifying laser medium for producing a laser emission, a laser resonator having at least one resonator mirror and a pump source has a gas-filled section with a filling gas, the latter consisting of a single gas or a filling gas mixture differing from the composition of air, whose nonlinear refractive index n2 substantially corresponds to that of air and which has a rotational Raman effect which is smaller in comparison with air.
Abstract:
A mode-locked laser employs a coupled-polarization scheme for efficient longitudinal pumping by reshaped laser diode bars. One or more dielectric polarizers are configured to reflect a pumping wavelength having a first polarization and to reflect a lasing wavelength having a second polarization. A Yb-doped gain medium can be used that absorbs light having a first polarization and emits light having a second polarization. Using such pumping with laser cavity dispersion control, pulse durations of less than 100 fs can be achieved.
Abstract:
A pulsed cascaded Raman laser (10) includes a pulsed light source (102) for generating a pulsed light (104) having an optical spectrum centered at a source wavelength. A non-linear Raman conversion fiber (106) is coupled to the pulsed light source (102). The pulsed light (104) traverses the nonlinear Raman conversion fiber (106) and the source power at the source wavelength is converted to a power output of an output signal (108) having an output wavelength longer than the source wavelength by a cascaded Stimulated Raman Scattering process, such that most of the source power is converted to the power of the last Stokes order in a single pass through the non-linear Raman conversion fiber (106).
