The eNB may be configured to transmit a first LTE signal that includes a first reference signal during an active transmission period of a Wi-Fi network in the unlicensed frequency band, and to restrict frequency spectra used for the transmission of the first LTE signal from frequency spectra used by the Wi-Fi network during the active transmission period. The first reference signal may enable maintenance of synchronization between the eNB and the UEs at least during the active transmission period. Embodiments described herein relate generally to efficient transmission of data over a radio network between a user equipment (“UE”) and a network node. The UE may adapt packets from TCP to a private protocol and transmit those data packets to the network node. The UE may use ARQ data from link layer circuitry to locally generate TCP ACK data for TCP layer circuitry. At the network node, the private-protocol data packets may be adapted to TCP and transmitted to a remote host over the Internet so that the TCP semantic may be maintained between the UE and the remote host. A system and method for enabling power over Ethernet (PoE) for legacy devices. Legacy devices often represent a large installed base of devices. This installed base of devices (e.g., mobile computing devices) may have little or no PoE functionality. It is a feature of the present invention that an external device (e.g., dongle) can be used to retrofit such an installed base of devices for use with state of the art PoE functionality.
