A nonwoven fibrous web and a method of making thereof. The nonwoven fibrous web includes greater than 0% but no greater than 30 wt % of a plurality of melt-blown fibers comprised of a crystalline (co)polymer; and at least 70 wt % of a plurality of randomly-oriented staple fibers, the plurality of randomly-oriented staple fibers including: at least 60 wt % of oxidized polyacrylonitrile fibers; and from 0 to 40 wt % of reinforcing fibers having an outer surface comprised of a (co)polymer with a melting temperature of from 100° C. to 350° C.; wherein the plurality of melt-blown fibers and the plurality of randomly-oriented staple fibers are bonded together to form a cohesive non-woven fibrous web.

Also disclosed are nonwoven mats formed from the composites and methods of making and using the composites. The composites enable the deployment of nanostructured materials for water treatment within a self-contained membrane with high water fluxes, as well as a number uses.

Provided are an insulator core, a method of manufacturing the same, and a slim insulator using the same, in which the insulator core is provided with a plurality of fine pores of a three-dimensional structure capable of trapping air by using, as a core member, a multi-layered laminate of nanowebs made of nanofibers that are obtained by electrospinning a polymer material with a low thermal conductivity, and has excellent heat insulating performance even with a thin film. Accordingly, the insulator core includes porous nanowebs which are made of a polymer with a low thermal conductivity and integrated by nanofibers having a diameter of 3 μm or less to be spun, thus having a three-dimensional fine-pore structure.

A process for continuously bonding staple fibers into an essentially non-twisted yarn comprising the steps of introducing into a fiber arrangement composed of staple fibers an excess of a liquid containing an adhesive in distributed form, squeezing excess liquid out of the fiber arrangement, compacting the fiber arrangement by applying pressure to form a moist slubbing, and for setting the adhesive and transforming the slubbing into a bonded yarn bringing into contact as by feeding the slubbing into a condensing vapor atmosphere.The yarn produced according to the aforementioned process, compared to a yarn set in dry air with the same quantity of adhesive, possesses a higher breaking length and rupture or break elongation and a smoother surface.

Method and device for manufacturing a flat textile structure in which two melts of at least two polymer materials are changed to the form of fibers with the aid of a spinning device and in which fibers are then combined and then solidified. The spinning device consists of a spinning rotor and the polymer materials employed have an charge difference of at least ten unit charges. The two materials are first melted separately from one another. Each melt, by means of a distributor device, is then fed to a group of outlet openings of a spinning rotor unmixed. The fibers emerging from the outlet openings are then stretched and combined to form a common flat structure with the flat structure then being charged triboelectrically by an aftertreatment.

Disclosed is a flame barrier made of a nonwoven fabric of partially graphitized polyacrylonitrile fibers having a weight per unit area of 40 to 100 g/m.sup.2 and a maximum thhickness of 1.8 mm. The nonwoven fabric is bonded with highly energetic water jets. The flame barrier can be used as a component of a planar multi-layer structure.
