摘要: An optical fiber configured to improve the pump conversion efficiency of an L-band fiber amplifier which uses the multimode pump source. By directly absorbing multimode light including 915 nm, an active fiber core region co-doped with both erbium and ytterbium can provide gain to the L-band signals via stimulated emission. The unwanted C-band amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) light generate from this active fiber core region can be absorbed by another active fiber core region doped with erbium, then provides additional gain to the L-band signals. Active regions and cladding can be configured to match a given spatial mode of the optical signal. Signal-pump combiners with end-coupling or side coupling can be used.

摘要: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for applying laser energy having desired pulse characteristics, including a sufficiently short duration and/or a sufficiently high energy for the photomechanical treatment of skin pigmentations and pigmented lesions, both naturally-occurring (e.g., birthmarks), as well as artificial (e.g., tattoos). The laser energy may be generated with an apparatus having a resonator with the capability of switching between a modelocked pulse operating mode and an amplification operating mode. The operating modes are carried out through the application of a time-dependent bias voltage, having waveforms as described herein, to an electro-optical device positioned along the optical axis of the resonator.

摘要: An optical amplifier repeater system includes an optical fiber propagating a light beam in a plurality of propagation modes and an optical amplifier repeater amplifying the light beam propagated through the optical fiber. The optical amplifier repeater includes an optical demultiplexer demultiplexing the light beam in the plurality of propagation modes propagated through the optical fiber into a plurality of single-mode light beams, an optical amplifier amplifying, by simultaneous pumping, intensities of the plurality of single-mode light beams using a light beam generated by one pumping light source, an optical multiplexer multiplexing the plurality of single-mode light beams amplified by the optical amplifier into a light beam in the plurality of propagation modes, and an optical intensity adjusting unit adjusting the intensity of each of the plurality of single-mode light beams at least one of before or after the amplification by the optical amplifier. The optical intensity adjusting unit performs the adjustment by amplifying or attenuating the optical intensity of each of the plurality of single-mode light beams in an individual optical path through which the single-mode light beam is propagated.

摘要: A light source employed in a coherent Raman scattering (CRS) spectroscopic apparatus or a CRS microscope includes a chromium forsterite laser (CrFL), a variable delay optical path configured to delay one optical pulse of branched optical pulses obtained by dividing an optical pulse from the CrFL according to a power, a highly nonlinear waveguide into which the other optical pulse of the branched optical pulses is input, a first wavelength filter connected to an output of the highly nonlinear waveguide, an ytterbium-doped glass fiber optical amplifier (YbFA) connected to an output of the wavelength filter, and a second wavelength filter connected to an output of the YbFA. The light source includes a one-optical path mode in which two wavelength bands corresponding to Raman scattering wavenumbers to be used for measurement are selected from an output of the variable delay optical path, and a two-optical path mode in which an output of the variable delay optical path and an output of the second wavelength filter are time-synchronized.

摘要: A Raman laser conversion device for generating a single longitudinal mode, SLM, laser output is disclosed. The device comprises a Raman medium that exhibits a Stokes emission when subject to pumping by a laser pump input, the laser pump input having a pump linewidth and the Raman medium having a Raman linewidth; wherein the Raman medium is configured to define feedback interfaces of a resonator such that the Stokes emission resonates within the Raman medium; and further wherein the free spectral range, FSR, of the resonator with respect to the pump linewidth and/or the Raman linewidth or a function thereof is such that only one longitudinal mode of the Stokes emission is able to resonate within the Raman medium; whereby the laser conversion device generates a SLM laser output that is frequency shifted with respect to the laser pump input.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for creating a sequence of turn-up processes for amplifiers. A method, according to one implementation, includes determining when a fiber span is initially installed in an optical line system or when an Optical Line Failure (OLF) in the fiber span has recovered. The optical line system includes a first set of amplifiers deployed at an upstream node and a second set of amplifiers deployed at a downstream node, the upstream node connected to the downstream node via the fiber span. In response to determining that the fiber span is initially installed in the optical line system or that an ORL in the fiber span has recovered, the method also includes sending a flag from the upstream node to the downstream node to allow the first set of amplifiers to perform a first turn-up process before the second set of amplifiers perform a second turn-up process.

摘要: A tunable, modulated high-frequency light beam from a single source of coherent light. An ultra-short pulse of coherent light, having an optical spectrum, is derived from a single source. Spreading the optical spectrum of the ultra-short pulse of coherent light forms a spectrally spread optical pulse which is thereafter split into two or more spectrally spread optical pulses. At least one of the two or more spectrally spread optical pulses is delayed, such that, upon recombining the two or more spectrally spread optical pulses a tunable, modulated spectrally spread optical pulse is formed.
