Abstract:
Nanoparticles of N-halamine-derivatized crosslinked polyamide are disclosed. Process of preparing the polymeric nanoparticles per se and incorporated in or on a substrate are also disclosed. Uses of the polymeric nanoparticles and of substrates incorporating same, particularly for reducing a formation of organic -based contaminants, e.g., load of a microorganism or of a biofilm, are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention provides polyamine derivatives, a use of the polyamine derivatives for the transfection of polyanions into cells, and a method of transfecting cells with a polyanion, comprising mixing said polyanion with a polyamine derivative e.g. in a buffer and treating said cells with the mixture obtained in the previous step.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of preparing terminally functionalized telechelic polymers using a cationic living polymer product or a terminal tert-chloride chain end of a carbocationic quasiliving polymer product, which comprises quenching the polymer product with a functionalized N-substituted pyrrole to thereby introduce the functionalized N-substituted pyrrole at the terminal reactive polymer chain end(s). A method is also disclosed whereby the N-substituent may be derivatized to a basic amine containing functional group. Also disclosed are the terminal functionalized polyisobuyl N-substituted pyrrole compounds where the polyisobutyl group is subsitituted at the 2 and 3 position of the N-substituted pyrrole.
Abstract:
An anti-fouling material useful to prevent fouling of structure exposed to a water environment includes a block copolymer having a carbon and/or silicone backbone with a pendant biocidal group and, optionally, a pendant fouling release group.
Abstract:
Provided are polymers derived from bridged heterocyclic compounds, fluorinated norbornene compounds, fluorinated alkenes, heterocyclic compounds, and combinations of two or more thereof for use in a wide variety of applications, including photoresist compositions. Also provided are methods for producing the monomer compounds for use in the present polymers.
Abstract:
Improved polymer-immobilized photosensitizer are disclosed as well as methods of preparing and using them. The polymer-immobilized photosensitizers comprise a cross-linked polymer backbone, a plurality of cationic ammonium or phosphonium groups covalently bound to the polymer backbone and an immobilized photosensitizer. The average total number of carbon atoms in the ammonium or phosphonium group is at least four and preferably at least 12. The photosensitizer can be either covalently or ionically bound to the polymer. Polymer-supported photosensitizers of the invention are unexpectedly superior in catalyzing the photosensitized oxidation of compounds containing carbon-carbon double bonds.
Abstract:
A modified ethylene−vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) having an ethylene content of 5 to 55 mol %, which contains a specific structural unit (I) in an amount of 0.3 to 40 mol % and may be obtained by reacting an ethylene−vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) with a monovalent epoxy compound (B) having a molecular weight of 500 or less; and a method for producing the modified ethylene−vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) which comprises melting and kneading an ethylene−vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) with a monovalent epoxy compound (B) in an extruder. The modified ethylene−vinyl alcohol copolymer (C) is superior to a non−modified ethylene−vinyl alcohol copolymer (A) in transparency, stretchability, softness and flexing resistance due to the specific structural unit (I) incorporated therein, and thus, can be used as a barrier material in various applications requiring the above performance capabilities.
Abstract:
A novel fluorinated aromatic acetal polymer comprises at least one unit of A and at least one unit of B or C, or at least one unit of each of A, B and C and optionally further comprises at least one unit of either D or E or at least one unit of each of D and E, wherein the units A and B and/or C, and optionally D and/or E are linked together by single covalent C-C bonds and have the formulae (A), (B), (C), (D) and (E), wherein R A is H or C 1 -C 11 alkyl, or an aryl group that does not contain fluorine, and R B and R C are an aryl groups that contains fluorine. The polymer is prepared by reacting a hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate polymer or copolymer with at least one non-fluorinated aldehyde component, and at least one fluorinated aromatic component. The polymer is useful is preparing a photosensitive composition which comprises at least one diazo resin and at least one such fluorinated aromatic acetal polymer. Such a photosensitive composition may be applied to a support to form an imageable member which may be imaged to form a lithographic printing plates.
