摘要: The use of an iontophoresis electrode assembly for delivery of a drug formulation is described. The drug formulation includes an anaesthetic and a vasoconstrictor. It is administered to a patient prior to a procedure to produce clinically acceptable depth and duration of dermal anaesthesia at the portion of skin to subject to a painful procedure or to reduce or eliminate pain. The procedure is one selected from the group consisting of venipuncture, IV cannulation, needle aspirations, body piercings, blood donations, electrolysis, tattoo removal, tattoo application, injections, dermabrasion, skin peeling, high velocity particle ablation, pace maker implantation, pace maker replacement, epidural puncture, lumbar puncture, regional nerve blocks, skin harvesting, small skin incisions, skin biopsies, circumcisions or excisions. The iontophoresis electrode assembly may also be used to reduce or temporarily eliminate neuropathic pain.

摘要: Techniques related to miniature lenses and lens arrays are generally described herein. The described techniques may be embodied in apparatuses, systems, methods and/or processes for making and using such lenses. In some examples, the various techniques may be utilized for miniature lenses such as nanometer to micron sized spherical lenses or lens arrays. An example process may include dewetting polymer films to form such lenses. The resulting lens-size may be tunable from about 200 nm to a few tens of microns, and more particularly in a range from about 200 nm to about 10 μm with spherical shapes of contact angles ranging from about 30° to about 150°. The resulting lenses may be tunable polymeric structures formed generally by self-organized room temperature dewetting of ultrathin polymer films by reducing the surface tension.

摘要: A plurality of groups of colorimetrically distinguishable metal nanoparticles are prepared to label specific analytes whose presence in a sample is under investigation, each group for specific analytes. After being mixed with the sample so that labeling can occur if the analyte or analytes are present, the sample is exposed to a sensor having probes for the analytes under investigation. Binding of any of the analytes present will carry the metal nanoparticle as well, which then enables colorimetric detection of each label to determine which if any of the analytes is present in the sample. In an alternative method the probes can be labeled with colorimetrically distinguishable metal nanoparticle labels and any binding events can be detected colorimetrically.

摘要: Polyolefin substrates, for example polypropylene, polyethylene or thermoplastic olefin molded parts, are made scratch resistant and heat and light stable by the incorporation therein of an additive combination of b) a carboxylic acid reagent functionalized olefin polymer or copolymer, c) a primary or secondary fatty acid amide and d) a combination of a low molecular weight and a high molecular weight hindered amine light stabilizer. The present polyolefins exhibit good weatherability, scratch resistance, good processability, good mechanical strength, good gloss retention and are non-sticky. The carboxylic acid reagent functionalized olefin polymer is for example maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene or polyethylene, or is a reaction product of maleic anhydride and an alpha-olefin, or is a tallow alcohol ester of said maleic anhydride products. The fatty acid amide is for example oleyl palmitamide or stearyl erucamide.
