    摘要： An fountain applicator for applying coating liquid onto a web of paper carried past the applicator, has a coating liquid flow path that includes a curved surface along which a sheet of the coating liquid is flowed to subject the sheet to centrifugal force to cause air entrained in the coating liquid to move away from one side of the sheet that is toward the curved surface, so that the one side is relatively free of entrained air. After being flowed along the curved surface, the sheet of coating liquid is directed toward the web in a free standing jet curtain of coating liquid, to contact the web surface primarily with the one relatively air-free side of the coating liquid sheet to decrease the occurrence of skip coating on the web surface, especially when the web is traveling past the applicator at high speeds. The coating is applied in excess onto the web surface and is metered and leveled to a desired coat weight by a downstream doctor. The downstream doctor may comprise a single metering device, or it may comprise an intermediate metering device followed by a final metering and leveling device.

    摘要： A device for applying a liquid to pasty medium to a moving surface, the moving surface in the case of direct application being the surface of a paper, board or other fibrous web. In the case of indirect application the moving surface being the surface of a transfer element which transfers the application medium to the surface of the fibrous web. The device includes an applicator for applying the medium and a doctor device arranged downstream in the running direction of the moving surface for doctoring off and/or equalizing the medium applied to the moving surface. In order to collect excess medium that has not remained on the moving surface and/or has not reached the latter, a flexible collecting part covering the interspace between applicator and doctor device is provided, which extends transversely with respect to the running direction of the moving surface and parallel to the applicator and the doctor device.

    摘要： An apparatus for coating a paper web in which a coating mix is applied onto a paper web using an applicator unit which forms a linear mechanical force on the web against a first backing surface situated on the back side of the web. The coating mix applied onto the web is doctored using a doctor unit acting against a second backing surface. The speed of at least one of the backing surfaces is independently controlled relative to the speed of the first backing surface and the web speed in order to attain control of the tensile stress of the web.

    摘要： A method and apparatus for coating a traveling paper web includes a coating applicator disposed in movably-controlled spaced adjacency with the paper web, which is supported on a rotating backing roll. The coating applicator permits a controlled introduction of a fresh portion of an aqueous slurry of coating material which is mixed with a recirculated portion of coating material in a controlled manner to prevent the formation of large vortices within the coating applicator. The coating material flows successively through mixing, convergent, and recirculation channels, all of which are defined on one side thereof by a distinct surface of a flow stabilizer which is positioned centrally in a cavity in the coating apparatus. Control of the supply of the coating material through the inlet nozzle, and the recirculation of the coating material between the recirculation and mixing channels, through a recirculation nozzle, is effected by directing the coating material through a plurality of orifices which provide a controlled back pressure in the coating material as well as to disrupt the propagation of cross-machine vortices in the coating material. The paper web is brought into contact with the coating material along a convergent channel where the coating material is carried by the traveling web over the backing roll and where the flow variation in the coating material in the convergent channel is controlled at a small-scale level. A metering blade is positioned downstream of the convergent channel to bear against the coating over the web and meter the coating onto the traveling paper web.
