Abstract: Technologies are generally described to communicatively couple an optical fiber to an optical element using a polymer layer. An optical fiber may be coupled to an optical element, such as an optical waveguide or another optical fiber, using a layer of rewritable photorefractive polymer positioned between the optical fiber and the optical element. Light from a light source may be applied to the optical fiber to initiate a transient photorefractive effect in the polymer layer facilitating corrections of misalignment. A path of high refractive index may be formed in the polymer layer, where the path of high refractive index communicatively couples the optical fiber to the optical element reducing alignment concerns and increasing alignment tolerances of optical elements. In some examples, the path of high refractive index may be re-established by rewriting the polymer layer through another application of light from the light source if the communicative coupling is disrupted.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for generating depth data based on a spatial light pattern. In some examples, a method of generating depth data includes obtaining an image of one or more objects on which a spatial light pattern is projected, wherein blurring of the spatial light pattern in the image monotonously increases or decreases in a depth direction, calculating a value of a spatial frequency component of the image in a local image area around a pixel of interest, and determining depth data corresponding to the calculated value of the spatial frequency component by utilizing a preset relationship between depths and values of the spatial frequency component.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for methods and systems to assign threads in a multi-core processor. In an example, a method to assign threads in a multi-core processor may include determining data relating to memory controllers fetching data in response to cache misses experienced by a first core and a second core. Threads may be assigned to cores based on the number of cache misses processed by respective memory controllers. Methods may further include determining that a thread is latency-bound or bandwidth-bound. Threads may be assigned to cores based on the determination of the thread as latency-bound or bandwidth-bound. In response to the assignment of the threads to the cores, data for the thread may be stored in the assigned cores.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for partial programming of memory having physically unclonable functions for secure data storage. In some examples, a sender that wishes to securely send data to a recipient using a physical memory may measure a program threshold average and a program threshold variation for bits in the memory and group the bits into different bins based on the measured average and variation. The sender may partially program the data to a set of bits selected from one or more of the bins by applying partial program pulses to the bits based on the program threshold average and the program threshold variation. The sender may then provide the partially-programmed memory to the recipient. The recipient may then partially program the received memory based on the program threshold average and the program threshold variation to recover the programmed data.

Abstract: Technologies are generally described for methods and systems effective to broadcast a message. In some examples, the methods may include receiving the message at a modulator. The modulator may receive a power signal configured to provide power to a closed conductive loop. The modulator may modulate the power signal using the message to generate a modulated power signal. The modulator may broadcast the message by sending the modulated power signal through the closed conductive loop. The modulated power signal, when passing through the closed conductive loop, may produce a modulated magnetic wave that includes an indication of the message. A receiver may be configured to detect the modulated magnetic wave from the closed conductive loop. The receiver may be configured to convert the modulated magnetic wave into the modulated power signal. The receiver may be configured to demodulate the modulated power signal to reproduce the message.

In some examples, a process for determining a quality-of-service of a mobile application executing on a mobile device coupled to a network includes collecting, by a mobile monitoring application (MMA), network usage measurements associated with multiple network communication sessions from a first network communication layer, wherein the multiple network communication sessions are conducted via the network and are associated with the mobile device. The process may also include evaluating, by the MMA, the collected network usage measurements to determine application-specific usage data associated with the mobile application, and determining, by the MMA, the quality-of-service of the mobile application based on the application-specific usage data.
