    摘要: The invention is a balun transformer that converts a single-ended (or unbalanced) signal to a differential (or balanced) signal. The balun is a printed metal pattern on a circuit board in conjunction with several low cost chip capacitors and a low cost chip inductor. The balun transformer is a modified Marchand balun that is implemented using printed transmission lines. The balun has a plurality of coupled transmission lines to improve tolerances to variations in PC board fabrication. To make the balun compact, it is electrically lengthened through the use of capacitive loading, which reduces the required physical size. Additionally, the capacitors increase the bandwidth due to the resonant interaction between the short inductive balun and the capacitors that are placed in series with the input and the output.

    摘要: In a system that demodulates a frequency modulated signal using a quadrature detector circuit, an apparatus that tunes the output signal to compensate for any offset in the signal includes an offset adjustment circuit and a control circuit. The offset adjustment circuit is operably coupled to the control circuit which may consist of a DAC and a digital logic such as a computer CPU. The control circuit determines a correction signal in response to a sequence of sampled of the system output, and supplies the correction signal to the offset adjustment circuit. The offset adjustment circuit provides an offset correction signal in response to the correction signal, and combines the offset correction signal with the output of the quadrature detector to provide an offset adjusted signal at an output node.

    摘要: An upstream amplifier is integrated on a substrate with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to form an integrated circuit. In an embodiment, a low-pass filter is also integrated on the substrate. The output signal level of the upstream amplifier is controllable. In embodiments, fine adjustments are made to the output signal level of the upstream amplifier by varying a bias current of the DAC. A software control bit is used to switch between a power-on mode of operation and a power-down mode of operation. The upstream amplifier transmits in a burst mode. The power consumption of the upstream amplifier scales with the amplifier's output signal level. A high degree of matching is attained between the positive and negative paths of the upstream amplifier. This provides high immunity from common-mode disturbances such as substrate noise, clock spurs, and glitches caused by a gain change.

The variable gain capability is achieved by replacing differential pair amplifiers having an input signal with less attenuation with one having an input signal that is more attenuated. This replacement continues until only ten differential pair amplifiers are remaining. At this point, if less gain is desired, differential pair amplifiers are turned off, but are not replaced. A minimum number of amplifiers will remain on.

    摘要: Electrical supply current, sufficient to power a wireless access point, is transmitted concurrently with a network data signal across a transmission line. A power and data coupler couples the network data signal and the power signal, received through a data input and a power input respectively, and transmits the coupled signal, to a distance of three meters or more, over the transmission line to a power and data decoupler. The power and data decoupler separates the power signal from the network data signal and supplies those signals to a power output port and a data output port, respectively, for use by a wireless access node. The power signal may be modulated at a low frequency relative to the frequency of the data signal, and the network data signal has a data transmission rate of one megabit/second or higher.

    摘要: A micro-power, micro-size RF detector is suitable for implementation on an integrated circuit. The detector is used for detecting the presence of high frequency AC signals on a transmission line which has a transmission line impedance. An input for connection to the transmission line through a high impedance relative to the transmission line is provided. A current mode detector is coupled to the input. The current mode detector translates AC signals on the input to a bias signal having a DC component determined by power of the AC signal on the transmission line. A current mode amplifier is coupled to the current mode detector, and amplifies the bias signal to produce a detector current. A binary output driver is coupled to the current mode amplifier, which generates a binary signal having one binary level if the detector current exceeds a high signal threshold, and another binary level if the detector current falls below a low signal threshold.

    摘要: An apparatus for detecting errors in a wireless communication channel comprises a receiver which receives a data stream from the wireless communication channel, a signal strength indication circuit coupled with the receiver which indicates signal strength for a received data stream, and processing resources coupled to the signal strength indication circuit which monitors the received data signal strength to detect anomalies in the strength of the received data stream, typical of erroneous data. Also, the system includes a signal phase monitoring circuit coupled with the receiver. This circuit indicates phase of the received data stream. Processing resources coupled with the signal phase monitoring circuit, monitor the received data stream phase to detect anomalies in phase of the received data stream typical of erroneous data. In addition, the data stream will include data packets having error detection codes imbedded within the data packets. Processing resources coupled with the receiver are responsive to the error detection codes to detect errors in the data packets. Thus, an error detection system based on monitoring the amplitude, and the phase of a received signal, combined with digital CRC detection techniques provides an efficient error detection system, capable of detecting interference early in transmission, allowing more rapid recovery in retries.

One method includes generating a regulated output voltage based upon a switching voltage. The duration of the dead time is adjusted based on a rate of change of the switching voltage.
