Abstract:
A solvent system for use in acidizing and cleanup in oil wells and gas wells. The solvent system comprises a substantially water-soluble alcohol, such as methanol, or ethanol or any mixture thereof, a substantially water/oil-soluble ester, such as one or more C.sub.2-esters through C.sub.10-esters and a substantially water/oil-soluble ketone, such as one or more C.sub.2-ketones through C.sub.10-ketones.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a rotating antenna that can be used in combination with a coded modulated transponder as part of a vehicle positioning and tracking radar system. The antenna transmits a pair of frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) electromagnetic signals that have a vertical polarisation, for example. The transmit signals are incident on the transponder which returns or transmits an electromagnetic signal back to the antenna having a horizontal polarisation, for example. The transponder can alter the polarisation of the incident transmit signals using a known technique. The transmit and receive feeds at the antenna are cross-polarised and are therefore isolated from each other.
Abstract:
Inhalation device and associated method for facilitating inhalation by a patient of powder medicaments contained in a receptacle. The inhalation device has a chamber for receiving the receptacle. A ring is circumferentially coupled to an inner surface of the chamber to achieve a higher reproducible emitted dose of medicament from the receptacle. The inhalation device also includes an improved implement for puncturing the receptacle, requiring less force and experiencing fewer failures. The inhalation device also includes a means for indicating readiness.
Abstract:
A security packaging incorporates security features as an integral part thereof. A blank made from a substantially rigid material incorporates at least one repeatedly verifiable authenticating security feature which cannot be separated from the material without causing damage to it. The security feature may comprise a multilayer laminate.
Abstract:
Compositions of the current invention are directed toward inhibiting the growth of microorganisms, particularly fungi. The compositions consist of chemically-synthesized antibiotics comprising certain amino acids. Methods of identifying particular antibiotic compositions from libraries of such compositions are disclosed. In addition, methods for preventing microbial growth in plants and animals are disclosed. Methods and compositions are also disclosed which relate to synergistic combinations of inhibitory peptides with other antimicrobial compounds.
Abstract:
A collision avoidance system for a machine is disclosed. The collision avoidance system has a first obstacle detection system. The first obstacle detection system is configured to detect a first obstacle and generate a corresponding first signal. Additionally, the collision avoidance system has an operator interface. The operator interface has a display configured to communicate visual information to an operator. The operator interface also has an input device configured to receive selections from the operator and generate a corresponding second signal. In addition, the collision avoidance system has a controller. The controller is in communication with the first obstacle detection system and the operator interface. The controller is configured to control the display to provide a first dangerous obstacle warning to the operator, based on the first signal. The controller is also configured to control the display to provide a second dangerous obstacle warning to the operator, based on the first and second signals.
Abstract:
A system for detecting obstacles near a machine is disclosed. The system has a plurality of obstacle sensors located on the machine. The system also has a controller in communication with each of the plurality of obstacle sensors. The controller is configured to pair one-to-one each of the plurality of obstacle sensors to each of a plurality of non-overlapping confidence regions. Additionally, the controller is configured to scan with the plurality of obstacle sensors. The controller is also configured to receive from the plurality of obstacle sensors raw data regarding the scanning, and assemble the raw data into a map. Based on the map, the controller is configured to determine at least one characteristic of at least one obstacle.
Abstract:
Formulations have been developed for pulmonary delivery to treat or reduce the infectivity of diseases such as viral infections, especially tuberculosis, SARS, influenza and respiratory synticial virus in humans and hoof and mouth disease in animals, or to reduce the symptoms of allergy or other pulmonary disease. Formulations for pulmonary administration include a material that significantly alters physical properties such as surface tension and surface elasticity of lung mucus lining fluid, which may be isotonic saline and, optionally, a carrier. The formulation may be administered as a liquid solution, suspension, aerosol, or powder where the particles consist basically of an osmotically active solute. Drugs, especially antivirals or antibiotics, may optionally be included with the formulation. These may be administered with or incorporated into the formulation.
