Abstract:
The cutting rate and useful life of conventional resin bonded coated abrasive products in extremely high pressure abrading operations is significantly increased by using abrasive mineral which consists essentially of fused zirconia. Substantial amounts of diluent may be included, e.g., by blending other less effective abrasive grains with fused zirconia grains or by crushing a hardened co-fusion of alumina and zirconia.
Abstract:
Indicator material for monitoring personal exposure to hazardous substances in ambient air comprising a pigment material, a binder and a sensitizer coated upon a transparent support member as a porous coating which permits gaseous diffusion throughout the coating is disclosed. Detection or monitoring is effected when the indicator material undergoes a visually observable reaction with hazardous material in the atmosphere at room temperature.
Abstract:
A method of making a hook strip having J-shaped hooks that can be used as a mechanical fastener. The method includes using an initial substrate of material formed as an array of upstanding precursor stems having distal tips at their ends opposite a backing. In addition, a heat source adapted for heating and a mechanism for deforming stem tips is provided. The substrate is positioned relative to the heat source such that a portion of the upstanding stems on the array is heated. Subsequently, the substrate is moved to a position relative to the mechanism for deforming to create a hook strip of J-shaped hooks from the heated portion of the upstanding stems. In addition, an article of manufacture, made in accordance with the method, is provided which includes a hook portion of a hook-and-loop type of mechanical fastener.
Abstract:
A coating composition which imparts anti-reflective and anti-fog properties to substrates coated therewith. The coating composition utilizes an inorganic metal oxide in combination with particular anionic surfactants. The coating compositions are particularly useful in the manufacture of disposable surgical masks and face shields.
Abstract:
There is provided a thermally stabilized polypropylene melt-blown microfiber acoustical insulation web which has a resistance to thermal degradation at a temperature of 135.degree. C. for at least 10 days. The polypropylene has a thermal stabilizer uniformly distributed within the melt-blown microfiber polymer which polymer when produced is subject to thermal and/or catalytic degradation in the absence of significant levels of thermal stabilizer or antioxidant.
Abstract:
A conspicuity marking system includes a light guide which has at least one optically reflective surface for propagating light through the light guide and a retroreflective light extractor for extracting light propagating through the light guide and for retroreflecting light from an external light source incident upon the system. Light propagating through the light guide which is transmitted into the light extractor is reflected back through the light guide such that it exits the light guide at a location displaced from the retroreflective light extractor. Light from an external light source which is incident on the system passes through the light guide and is retroreflected toward the light source by the retroreflective light extractor.
Abstract:
A filter device for filtering a fluid, in particular for filtering the air flowing into the passenger compartment of a vehicle. The filter element (10; 60) including filter material (12; 62) with a border (14; 64) and a filter element frame (20; 70) connected with the filter material (12; 62) and extending at least partly along the border (14; 64), the filter element frame (20; 70) being provided with a projecting resilient sealing lip (24; 74) for abutting a device (42, 44, 48) receiving the filter element (10; 60), the sealing lip (24; 74) having at least one bending section (26) of a first thickness (30) facing the filter element frame (20; 70) and at least one enlarged section (28) adjoining the at least one bending section (26) and facing away from the filter material (12; 62), at least a part (40) of the enlarged section being of a second thickness (32) greater than the first thickness (30) in the at least one bending section (26).
Abstract:
There is provided a soft nonwoven fibrous loop material for use in hook and loop fastening systems. The nonwoven fibrous loop material of the invention contains an open fibrous loop layer comprised predominately of polypropylene polymer, copolymer or blend fibers. The nonwoven fibrous loop layer material is autogeneously bonded to a backing layer formed of polypropylene polymers or copolymers having a percent isotacticity of less than 70%, optionally with additional layers present provided so that the overall nonwoven fibrous loop material is a laminate having a circular bend stiffness of less than about 9 Newton and having tensile strength of at least 1500 g/2.54 cm-width.
Abstract:
A transparent optical film made of a polymeric material has a first smooth surface and a second structured surface for providing a simulated beveled appearance. The structured surface of the film is formed of a plurality of spaced parallel grooves, each groove being formed by a first facet which is substantially perpendicular to the first smooth surface and a second facet which makes an angle between 1 to 60 degrees with the first smooth surface. The film may be affixed to glass, the adhesive applied to the first smooth surface or the second structured surface, to simulate beveled glass. Further, a leaded glass appearance or beveled mirror appearance may be simulated by vapor coating the optical film.
