Abstract: Described herein is a multi-phase polymer binder including an aqueous polymer dispersion, an optional hydrophobic emulsion, and an optional surfactant. The polymer binder, when dried, provides a water uptake of less than about 5 g/m2/20 min, a seal strength of at least about 200 Newton/meter (N/m) as measured at 25° C. or at 90° C., and sufficient block resistance to impart no substrate damage.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to systems and methods for creating durable lubricious surfaces (DLS) via interfacial modification. The DLS can be prepared via a combination of a solid, a liquid, and an additive that modifies the interface between the DLS and a contact liquid, resulting in an interfacial layer that acts as a lubricant and/or protective coating between the DLS and the contact liquid. The lubricating effect created between the additive and the contact liquid results in enhanced slipperiness, as well as the protective properties that can help with durability of the DLS.

Abstract: A method according to the present disclosure includes providing a substrate, depositing an underlayer over the substrate, depositing a photoresist layer over the underlayer, exposing a portion of the photoresist layer and a portion of the underlayer to a radiation source according to a pattern, baking the photoresist layer and underlayer, and developing the exposed portion of the photoresist layer to transfer the pattern to the photoresist layer. The underlayer includes a polymer backbone, a polarity switchable group, a cross-linkable group bonded to the polymer backbone, and photoacid generator. The polarity switchable group includes a first end group bonded to the polymer backbone, a second end group including fluorine, and an acid labile group bonded between the first end group and the second end group. The exposing decomposes the photoacid generator to generate an acidity moiety that detaches the second end group from the polymer backbone during the baking.

providing a first binder composition containing
(a) from 50% to 85% by weight of water, preferably from 70 to 82% of water
(b) from 10% to 45% by weight, preferably 15 to 35% by weight of a saccharide component containing sucrose,
(c) from 3% to 15% by weight, preferably from 5 to 12% by weight of one or more ammonium salts or primary amine salts of an acid,
preparing a second binder composition comprising the dilution of the first aqueous binder composition with water to a solids content of between 3 and 7% by weight,
applying the second binder composition to mineral fibers,
forming an assembly of mineral fibers coated with the second binder composition, and
heating the assembly of coated mineral fibers so as to form an assembly of mineral fibers bound by an insoluble binder,
said process being characterized in that the first aqueous binder composition has a pH of less than 5.5, in that the ammonium salt or primary amine salt is a salt of strong acid or a salt of an acid having a pKa of less than or equal to 2.2, and in that the first and second binder compositions are devoid of salts of weak acids having at least a pKa of between 2.5 and 6.9.-

Abstract: A coating for a glass and a forming method thereof, and an automotive window are provided. The coating includes: a first material layer which has a first elastic modulus; and a second material layer which includes at least one material layer, wherein the second material layer has a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface, the first surface is used for disposing the first material layer, the second surface is adaptable for facing a surface of the glass when the coating is applied on the glass, and the second material layer has a second elastic modulus less than the first elastic modulus. Anti-scratch ability of the coating and scratch resistance of the automotive window may be improved, which avoids scratches on the automotive window.

Abstract: A process for forming on a corrodible substrate a corrosion-resistant multi-ply coating comprising: (a) applying an aluminum-containing silicate slurry onto the surface of the substrate and heating the deposited slurry to form a cured composite of an aluminum-Containing silicate basecoat that is not electrically conductive, optionally repeating the aforementioned step to form a thicker multi-ply coating, (b) applying an initial solution of tri valent aluminum and phosphate ions (Al+3PO4) to the surface of said basecoat and heating the substrate that has thereon said solution to form a cured ply comprising a composite that is not electrically conductive; (c) mechanically working the surface of the composite to form a modified composite which is in electrically conductive form; and (d) applying to the surface of the modified composite an additional solution of divalent aluminum and phosphate ions (Al+3PO4), the composition of which may be the same as or different from said initial solution, and heating the modified conductive coated surface having thereon said additional solution under conditions which cure it to form said multi-ply coating which is not electrically conductive, a multi-ply coating prepared by the process, and an article coated with the multi-ply coating.
