摘要: An over-the-wire balloon catheter has a radiopaque marker thereon at a known distance from a distal end of the catheter. An elongated flexible guide wire has a plurality of longitudinally spaced radiopaque markers on a distal portion thereof, with adjacent markers on the guide wire being longitudinally spaced at a distance equal to the known distance between the distal end of the catheter and its radiopaque marker. The guide wire is advanced through an artery until one of its markers is positioned at a desired location relative to a stenosis. Subsequently, the balloon catheter is advanced over the guide wire until the radiopaque marker of the catheter is in a predetermined position relationship to the radiopaque marker of the guide wire which has aligned on the stenosis. The cooperating radiopaque markers of the guide wire and catheter thus allow the balloon member of the catheter to be positioned relative to the stenosis in a timely fashion without the need to constantly inject fluoroscopic dye to view the stenosis.

摘要: A guide wire with a distal portion having adjustable flexibility. The guide wire may include a distal polymeric member and a heat source. The heat source may be activated to cause the polymeric member to increase in temperature and increase in flexibility. The increase in flexibility of the distal portion of the guide wire enhances the ability of the guide wire to navigate tortuous vasculature to a target site. After the guide wire has been navigated to the target site, the heat source may be deactivated to cause the polymeric member to decrease in temperature and increase in stiffness. The increase in stiffness of the distal portion of the guide wire enhances support provided for devices (e.g., catheters) advanced thereon.

摘要: A variety of devices for use in accessing the subarachnoid space are described. In several embodiments an introducer sheath is disclosed having three main sections, a distal portion, an intermediate portion, and a proximal portion. The distal portion and intermediate portion form a first bend, and the intermediate portion and the proximal portion form a second bend, giving the overall device a general L-shape, S-shape, C-shape, or a three dimensional Z-shape. Apparatuses for attaching an introducer sheath to the skin of a patient are also discussed, as are methods for using, shaping and sizing an introducer sheath.

摘要: A single operator exchange biliary catheter having a common distal lumen. The biliary catheter includes an elongate shaft having a proximal portion defining an ancillary lumen and a distal portion defining a common guidewire and ancillary lumen. The common distal lumen reduces the profile of the distal portion of the shaft. The elongate shaft also includes a proximal guidewire port disposed between the proximal end of the shaft and the distal end of the shaft to facilitate single operator use. A seal may be disposed adjacent the proximal guidewire port to thereby seal the port. Preferably, the shaft includes a single lumen distal portion and a bi-lumen proximal portion. The single lumen distal portion of the shaft may be curved and may include a tapered or spherically shaped distal tip.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for detecting the speed and/or location of a moving object within a target area are disclosed. A pitch speed measurement and strike zone detection apparatus in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include a support frame configured to support a pair of reflective surfaces on either side of a target area. A light source and receiver configured to direct a light beam back and forth between the reflective surfaces can be used to form a light curtain that detects when an object passes through a particular location within the target area. Multiple light sources and receivers may be employed to measure the speed of the object, and to determine whether the object passes through a particular strike zone. The device may include an adjustment mechanism and self-alignment laser to reposition the reflective surfaces, as necessary.

摘要: Medical devices that include oxidizable portions can be plated after a two step activation process that includes successive applications of two aqueous solutions of ammonium bifluoride. Once plated, such materials can be soldered using conventional solders and fluxes. Medical devices can be assembled by soldering together plated materials. Oxidizable materials can be plated with radiopaque materials to yield medical devices that are more visible to fluoroscopy.

摘要: A system for monitoring the condition of impulse lines to a differential pressure sensor. The lines may be connected at two locations of a pressure source, such as a pipe having a fluid flow. One line may direct a pressure of the source to one side of a piezoelectric diaphragm and another line may direct another pressure to the other side of the piezoelectric diaphragm. The diaphragm may provide an electrical indication of the differential pressure between both sides of the diaphragm. One of the lines may also be connected to a piezoelectric diaphragm of a static pressure sensor. The latter diaphragm may provide an electrical indication of static pressure. Detection and comparison of noise levels of the electrical indications of the pressures may indicate if one or both lines are plugged, and which one if not both.
